Hi All, I know this has probably been talked about many times but I just need to confirm the following. Lightroom and Photoshop CC: 1. The software is downloaded to my computer, and stays there and works as long as I pay the rent. 2. Per 1 above, I don't need to be on the internet to use it. 3. All my work stays on my computer, or where ever I put it, even if I stop renting the software. 4. The software I have now Lightroom 5.7 will still work if I stop renting the CC stuff. 5. Am I missing anything about this. BTW - The CC package is on sale this month till the 17th (you may already know that.) Thanks as always for any help and comments. I haven't been around much for some time - miss you all. Mark

Am I missing anything about this. I don't use the Creative Cloud (hate that name) but: 1. yes 2. true, with a caveat. According to Adobe: "Because your Creative Suite applications are installed directly on your computer, you will not need an ongoing Internet connection to use them on a daily basis. However, you will need to be online when you install and license your software, and at least once every 30 days thereafter. The software will alert you when you need to connect to the Internet for a license status check." The license status check has a 7 day grace period. So you just need to check in once every 30 days." 3. yes 4. yes 5. probably, but not among the questions you asked

Thank you very much Major Major! I just might give all this a try ... might nice to have the newer Lightroom version. And I agree with about the Creative Cloud thing ... I don't even like hearing/using just the cloud word part ... there's no magic cloud, just banks of servers scattered here and there and about ... Thanks again. Mark

4. The software I have now Lightroom 5.7 will still work if I stop renting the CC stuff. That depends. If you bought LR 5.7 before you signed up for CC, then it will continue to work even if you don't have CC. If you go with CC, you would have the ability to update to the latest version of LR (6.something)

Be aware that CC creates a new catalog from your existing 5.7. catalog. All your new activities/photos will be in this new catalog. LR 5.7. CANNOT read this CC-catalog.

Franz However, I have read that if you don't continue your subscription, your LR CC catalog will still be usable, I believe that only the 'develop' module will non longer work, but you can still work in the library module and use external editors like Elements. I don't find the correct link for the moment...

you may want to download the free 30 day trial before you purchase, however there was a discussion on CC back in December from another member, and this was the reply I wrote there.....

The subscription to CC Photography Plan is not really a monthly thing, it is for an annual subscription with the option of pre-paying an annual lump sum or USD 9.99 monthly for 12 months, and then it renews for another year. If you decide to cancel after the initial 14 days you will be charged 50% of the remaining months in your subscription. When I subscribed I did not read all the terms and conditions and found this out when I was going to cancel my subscription for the winter months when I am away in our RV. The nice customer service person I spoke to gave me two months "free" and I decided to keep my subscription going. If you cancel the CC subscription, Lightroom will still work, but the develop and Map modules won't. However you can still access your files and work on your catalogs.
Another thing you get with CC is Lightroom Mobile, which may not interest everyone, but was one of the key factors that made me subscribe. I love being able to sync collections between my computer and mobile devices, and then do edits, ratings etc on the IPad, and also have access to slide shows and collections on my mobile devices. Lightroom mobile works on Apple and Android devices and smart phones.
Although I now have the full blown version of Photoshop, I have not used it as I can barely master Elements. There are also other mobile apps such as Adobe Slate and Voice and the Cloud storage included.
