I discovered something about the Eye Dropper tool today. When you pick a colour with the Eye Dropper tool it appears as the Foreground colour in your Toolbar but if you want to pick a colour for the Background hold down the Alt key while selecting the colour with the Eye Dropper tool. I presume if you are on a Mac you would use the Command key.
You can also target a colour selection more accurately by pressing the CapsLock key on your keyboard turning the Eye Dropper tool into a target so that you can pick up one exact colour pixel from whatever source you choose.

Thanks for sharing that BillieJean. I discovered, today, that to press Caps Lock using the Lasso Tool, it changes the cursor to a circle which is easier to use - I think it was for the Magnetic Lasso It's clearly worth experimenting with different keys coz it seems like many of them have many functions Julie

BillieJean and Julie, thanks for these tips!
Here is one more tip.
When you use the default Point Sample setting, the Eyedropper/Color Picker tool selects the color of the exact pixel you click on. On the other hand, when you select the 3-pixel square average (3x3) or the 5-pixel square average (5x5) setting, this tool samples this block of pixels and then averages them. These two latter settings work really well when there is some pixel-to-pixel variation in a given color.

Thank you Julie and Sepiana. All these little tips help with the workflow... I need to work out how to remember them all, though I try to write them down somewhere but often get carried away and forget to even do that. Ha! When I do make a note of such things, I can't remember where I put them
