Hi everyone,
I created an action (.atn file) to transform an image into an orb. Feel free to download it and give it a try. I tested this action in PSE 7, 10, 11 and above. It worked just fine. I believe the same will hold true for PSE 8 and 9.
If you have Elements PSE 11 and above, load the .atn file via either the Actions panel or the Effects panel.
If you have PSE 7 through 10, you need to install this action so that it can be accessed via the Action Player (Guided Edit>Automated Actions>Action Player).
Windows: C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\x.x\Locale\en_us (or your locale)\Workflow Panels\actions
Mac: Hard Drive>Library>Application Support>Adobe>Photoshop Elements>x.x>Locale>en_us (or your locale)>Workflow Panels>actions
NOTE: Before running this action, crop your image to a square.

Thanks, Sepiana for creating this action for all of us. I ended up duplicating one half of my image and flipping to create my orb.

I'd love to try this, but after downloading I can't open the file or install it into my PSE 9. Computer challenged user

I also tested this action using Elements 7 and 10. It should work in Elements 9.
You need to install this action in the Action Player in Guided Edit. I didn't create a .png file for the thumbnail (which Elements will automatically convert into a .jpeg file). Therefore, you cannot install this action in the Photo Creations/photo effects folder. When you use the Action Player, all you need is the .atn file.
Are you on a PC or on a Mac? If you are on a PC, which Windows version (Windows Vista, 7, 8/8.1, or 10)?

Hi May I just ask if the end result shows any difference between using the Sepiana's Action or working through the 'normal' steps, please? I'm just intrigued to know. I haven't downloaded the Action as yet, I must admit Thanks Julie

An action just automates the steps needed for doing something. When you create an action in Photoshop, you just follow the "manual/normal" steps and you record them as you go. When I recorded this action, I followed exactly the three steps below.
1. Filter>Distort>Polar Coordinates>Polar to Rectangular 2. Image>Rotate>180° 3. Filter>Distort>Polar Coordinates>Rectangular to Polar
As my screen shot shows, there is no difference if you use this action or if you create the orb manually following the three steps above. All the action is doing is automating these steps, reducing them to a single click on the "Play" button (and saving you some time).

Thanks very much for answering my query, Sepiana. I just wanted the confirmation really as I couldn't really imagine it being any different. I appreciate you going to the trouble of doing both to show how they are exactly the same.
Many thanks Julie

PC with Windows 7.
Downloaded the .atn file and double-click does nothing, as well as RT click > OPEN command. Doesn't unzip either. I know it's me, but can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.
