Important things to know when using any of the Nik Collection apps as stand alone apps. Instead of using the apps as Elements plugins. This applies to PSE because HDR Efex Pro 2 is not available as a Elements plug-in, but can be used as a stand app. photo.stackexchange.com "...there are some significant caveats. Although they can be run alone, the plugins were not designed to be used as a standalone application." photo.stackexchange.com/questions/75907/can-the-nik-collection-be-used-without-photoshop-or-lightroomNotes For All Stand Alone Modules1) All modules use only jpeg or tiff files. Convert copies to these formats before loading. 2) To load images into the modules, drop the image copy on the module shortcut, (jpeg's and tiff's.) Some modules have a Open menu option. See note 5. 3) Saving using the modules will overwrite the loaded file. Always load a copy of the image. Some modules have a Save menu option. See note 5. 4) When mulitiple images are loaded into a module. Saving will save all files loaded, not just the current image. 5) Some modules have an Open and Save menu. The modules are Analog, Color, HDR and Silver Efexs. The Open menu option only opens jpg files. Tiff images can be loaded by dropping the image on a the shortcut icon, just as jpeg's can. Save menu options are jpeg and tiff files.

I thought I would share this with you all.
If you have the purchased version of the Nik Collection, the HDR Efex Pro 2 plug-in will be available in Elements. It works just fine; there is no incompatibility issue. Go figure!
