Got a surprise when I went to the Morguefile site this morning. It appears to have been completely re-designed. Not sure if I like it or not. Maybe just takes a bit of getting used to.

I can no longer find the download button that provided the high resolution image. Could only save a low res version to my hard drive by right-click plus Save As. It was the high resolution that enabled easy selection that made their site attractive to me. Maybe I'm just missing something?

Ritage If you left click on an image it comes up full screen sort of thing and you can download or save it from there but I still don't know the resolution. So far I'm not liking the new look.

BillieJean, sorry I didn't express myself clearly. That's what I did and it is the full screen image that saves in low res. I tried 5 totally different pics and they were between 150KB and 250KB. They used to come from around 1MB to as high as 6MB or 7MB, depending on whether they showed a single object, such as a flower e.g., or a landscape.

No problems. They don't seem to give a choice now, either that or it's so well hidden that neither of us can find it...lol

Morguefile Image Sizes
I think the image size is the full size uploaded and it depends on the image. I just downloaded an image that was 45 megabytes, (RUSTY RODS.) There were no size options. I just placed the mouse cursor over the image and clicked on the down arrow.

I also just downloaded two full size images.

OK I downloaded an image and in Windows Explorer when I hovered my mouse over it, it said it was 268kb but when I opened it in PSE and went to Image > Resize > Image Size it said it was 9mb. So I guess it's just a matter of getting used to the new way of doing on the site.

BillieJean -
Yes - extremely odd. I downloaded a file that Windows reports as 798k, while PSE's resize says it's 17.4M. Anyone know what the heck is going on here?

Now it's working for me too. The little download dialog at the bottom is back as well Maybe they were temporarily out of order.
Thanks everyone for trying it out.

Major Major "I downloaded a file that Windows reports as 798k, while PSE's resize says it's 17.4M."
Jpg's are compressed files that when opened are uncompressed. Bitmap files are not compressed and when opened are the same size.
Compressed vs. Uncompressed Compressed file: In a image where the same color is repeated 25 times in a row will = 2 bytes in a file. The byte color and number of repeats. Uncompressed file: In a image where the same color is repeated 25 times in a row will = 25 bytes in a file.

Hmm. I never realized that, Moto. I'll have to pay more attention to my jpgs when I open them. Thanks.

Jpg's are compressed files that when opened are uncompressed. I didn't know that either Moto. You learn something every day... The little download dialog at the bottom is back as well Maybe they were temporarily out of order. Not for me it's not I'm afraid. Or at least if it is I must be looking in the wrong place.
