There are on line complaints that Microsoft is automatically upgrading folks computers to Windows 10 [ NOT TRUE ]. What actually is happening is there's a warning that OFTEN is ignored because it's obscured with the gwx [get windows 10] notice. There may be reasons that folks don't want to upgrade - privacy being one. If you are one of these folks there's an easy solution - Steve Gibson has post a nifty utility that will check your Windows machine and enable you to choose what actions the utility will enable. Take a read here

Note that Microsoft has given a deadline of July 29th to upgrade to Windows 10 for free.

Thanks very much for that information and link.
I also am very happy with Windows 7 and would be very annoyed should I wake up to find that something else had been installed.
I am not very computer savvy; I read that page and am uncertain just what I should do; should I click the "download now" button or what ?
Am I correct in understanding that NEVER-10 is FREE ?
Thanks.

I did a bit of reading and research on Gizmo's Freeware site and found this Never-10 to be highly recommended, simple to install, and both software and piggyback free; once Never-10 has done it's magic, you can even delete it's small file from the system if you so desire; I just left it in my downloads folder for just-in-case.
I simply clicked the green "download now" button and quicker than a flash I had the file tucked away in a folder; I clicked "run" and within seconds I got the Never-10 window that said that I already had the necessary Windows upgrade that makes using Never-10 possible; it also told me that Windows 10 had already secretly been hidden away within my system just lurking and waiting for an opportunity to overtake my system; it said "168,500,332 bytes within 283 files and folders are currently being consumed by W10"
I clicked the "delete these files" button and then clicked "disable O/S upgrades" and got the final window that told me that my system was now safe from unwanted O/S takeovers.
Then, I happened to remember the wife's dust-covered seldom-used laptop that I have recently commandeered as a handy means of loading pictures such that I can take it to Aunt Rodie's and Granny Esther's and let them view the many images; it too has Windows 7 and so I decided to give it a dose of Never-10 as well.
On this unit, I got the Never-10 window that tells me that this unit does not yet have the necessary Windows update that will allow me to disallow W10; I clicked the "install update" button and 40-minutes later it is still percolating on that.

Just to be 100% accurate Never-10 is executed, there is no installer and nothing is registered in Microsoft's registry on the machine. The reason for my being nitpicky ... Some folks might not want anything installed!

Peterj, I really appreciate you bringing to light the existence of Never-10.
I sleep much better now knowing that my Windows 7 will still be there each morning when I wake up.
Thanks for sharing the information.

I got a new tower computer last Sunday. I had 7 pro. put on. After a few hours use, I lost the internet. Microsoft kept putting a window up saying Explorer was unable to connect. My techie has heard that they are behind this, as they want people to have Windows 10. I personally know two friends had the same happen to them - and they hadn't changed anything. We are not the only ones this has happened to.
Just thankful I have a laptop.
