Awhile back, I somehow managed to accomplish this, but can't remember how. I'm trying to shade a portion of my background image. I create a new layer, and then choose a color, and 25% opacity. But if I let go of the mouse button, and apply the shading over an area I already shaded, it gets progressively darker with each stroke. What settings do I use to be able to go over the same area again without the initial shading color changing? I know I was able to do this before. Thanks for the help.

Set the opacity of the layer in the layers panel to 25%. Then you can use the brush at 100% opacity, it will not make a difference.

That did the trick. Can't believe it was something so simple. Thanks!
