When I print my photos from pse 13, they come out looking very muddy. I have cleaned the printheads, printed all the test reports etc. and all the systems show normal colour. The problem is that what I see after I have edited my photos in PSE is not what is coming out of my printer. As a relatively new pse user, is it possible that the colour mismatch is coming from pse? What else could I try?

First, I want to welcome you to Photoshop Elements & More justasiam! Printing problems can be difficult to problem-shoot, so let's try to narrow it down a bit first. If you can view an image, you can almost certainly print from the same program. How does it look when you print a photo without using PSE?

I had read the document about color management, Sepiana. However, they suggest changing the color management to pse only if one is an advanced user. I'm afraid I would probably need a walk-through, as I am a pse newbie and technologically challenged as well!! I have an HP Photosmart D7260 printer, which also has additional color options but the manual doesn't describe how to adjust them (saturation etc.). I will first try to print a photo without pse, that was a great suggestion, tpgettys. Thanks, both of you.

I believe in you!
I am not a printing expert but, from what I understand, the key variable in color management is "consistency". Whichever color management option you choose, you need to let your printer know. To select a color management option, see these Adobe instructions: Set up color management
To let your printer know about it, you need to do the following (from the Editor).
1. Open a file. 2. Go to File>Print>More Options>Color Management>Color Handling. 3. Select an option from the Color Handling drop-down menu.
NOTE:
You should have two options: Printer Manages Colors and Photoshop Elements Manages Colors. Just make sure you are consistent. For example, if you choose Photoshop Elements Manages Color, you will need to make sure color management is turned off in the print driver.

Is your monitor calibrated? Editing on an uncalibrated monitor can give you the results you describe. If you have not done this I would start there.

I agree. Calibration of the monitor should be a priority. Once that is completed, you can set things up so that the printer manages color, or PSE manages color, but not both. My equipment works best with the printer managing colors.
