Using Photoshop Elements 14 on Windows 10 since Mid-April 2016 and the experience has been uneventful except for new user learning curve. Recently (within last week), while editing a large group of vaca photos (200+), a "process" message interrupts me and locks the system until the process has completed. Description is "Building Content and Effects". I am primarily using the Guided mode and often use AutoFix for editing, then saving the changes. This interruption occurs after editing about 10-12 pictures, and takes about 15 minutes until the process has completed (it provides a progress scroll bar). Today, this process started as soon as I launched Photoshop.
I have plenty of RAM available (set in preferences to use 1769 MB of 2528 MB of RAM). Not sure what to look at next. Does anyone else have this issue or some expertise to explain what is happening and if I can avoid it?

Hi qcbobc, welcome to PSE&M!
It looks like there is a problem with the MediaDatabase.db3 file. This is the file which "caters" to the Content/Graphics as well as to the Effects panel. It got somehow corrupted. Let's try this.
NOTE: Make sure Elements is closed while you do this.
1. Navigate the path below and delete the MediaDatabase.db3 file.
C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\14.0\Locale\en_US (or your locale\MediaDatabase.db3
NOTE: You need to set up your folder options to show hidden files and folders before you can navigate this path.

2. Open Elements. A "Building Content and Effects" progress bar will appear showing the MediaDatabase.db3 file is being rebuilt. Be patient; this process may take a few minutes.
3. When the rebuilding process is over, close Elements.
4. Open Elements again and hopefully the problem has been fixed. No more error messages!

Thank you, yours is the first response I've had from any forum to my issue! I "un-hid" the folders and followed your directions to locate the MediaDatabase.db3 file. There is no such file in the locales/en_us directory and I searched the other locales directories as well. When I did a search of the C: drive, no results returned, only information directing me a various web sites. Does that mean that the MediaDatabase.db3 file doesn't exist on my system? And if so, should I follow your steps 2, 3 and 4 to see if this file gets rebuilt and is now visible in the PS14 directory? Or should I uninstall and reinstall again to see if that corrects the problem? Thank you for your assistance!

Sepiana - After more searching, I located the MediaDatabase.db3 file, deleted it, and continued on with your instructions. Will edit some more photos later today, and hoping that my issue has been resolved. Will post the results either way. Fingers crossed! And thank you!

qcboc, You are most welcome! Glad to hear you found the MediaDatabase.db3 file. Let's hope deleting it will fix this problem. Waiting to hear from you. I will answer your previous question anyway. Elements needs the MediaDatabase.db3 file. This is the file "behind" the Content/Graphics and the Effects panel. If you didn't have this file, you could still open Elements, use the menus on the top bar, the Tools panel, etc. but not these two panels. They would display no effects; they would be blank. Anyway, this has been my experience.

Sepiana - Just finished editing about 30 more pics, and so far, no process error message! Hoping it was a corrupted file that caused this, and it has been fixed. Thank you again! So appreciate your obviously skilled technical knowledge!
