I purchased the subscription LR and am learning. After a LR edit I can open the photo in either Photo Shop or PSE (where I have all the Topaz filters installed). When I go to edit in from LR to PS the photo opens ok. If I go to edit in from LR to PSE the photo will not display. Any help is appreciated. Thanks ... Dave

Dave....
What happens? Does PSE open but you see no image in the workspace, or does PSE not open at all?

Are you opening In PSE by right clicking on the photo in lightroom then choosing edit in. The reason being i cannot replicate what you are doing.I have lightroom 6 Elements 13 and Topaz. Alan

I had already checked that link Sepiana and everything was set ok. Thanks. Alan, I was doing as you suggest and PSE13 opens but the LR edit photo does not show. I can go into the photo's folder and bring the edit LR photo into PSE from there, but it is just another step but not a big deal. I was just curious if anyone else had the same problem with a quick fix. If not I'm sure I'll find the solution with a little more LR experience. I really don't do that much professional type editing but I kind of like the LR interface with other programs. I'm not sorry that I got a years subscription and am sure I'll enjoy playing with it ... I recall I had a similar problem with PSE 13 . i put it down to LR being confused because I have several other PSE versions on my computer. I went into LR preferences and specifically pointed to the PSE 13 editor exe file as an external editor and it's worked fine since then.
As an aside you do now have Photoshop CC and it's easy enough to add your Topaz filters to that.

Thanks Tony. I added PSE13 editor exe originally. Interesting on you side note. How do I install the Topaz filters into Photoshop from PSE and will they still remain in PSE13. Thanks for your help ... Dave

Thanks Tony. I added PSE13 editor exe originally. Interesting on you side note. How do I install the Topaz filters into Photoshop from PSE and will they still remain in PSE13. Thanks for your help ... Dave A couple of ways to do it. You can download the Topaz filter again and run the installer - it will install into all applications so you'll then have it in both PSE and PS. It's easy to do and remembers you so doesn't need reactivating. See support.topazlabs.com/hc/en-us/articles/203014428-How-do-I-get-my-Topaz-filters-into-Photoshop-CC-2014-
Another way is to navigate to the plug-in folder in PSE 13 (mine is C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 13\Plug-Ins) and there you should see the shortcuts to the Topaz plug-ins as well as any other filters you may have added to PSE 13 . You can just copy the shortcuts to the corresponding Photoshop CC Plug-In folder - in my case C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC 2014\Plug-ins

Dave...
Somethings just occured to me.
I presume the files in LR are RAW files. If you don't have the version of ACR that supports your camera installed in Elements then the images won't get opened. So, try opening one of your RAW files directly from Elements; if it fails then you need to get the version of ACR that supports your camera.

Colin When you send a raw file from LR, it makes a copy - you choose .psd or tiff, and that is what gets sent to PSE, not the original raw file.

I've got the correct version of ARC and you're right Colin, when I open a LR image thru the back door into PSE it does open as a tiff. It's not that big of a deal after I copied my topaz filters into PS CC. Thanks for the info ... Dave

Curiously enough the procedure is different when using Full Photoshop v Elements.
When you do and Edit In > Photoshop you can get a warning that LR doesn't have the latest release of ACR and you are presented with two options unless you've suppressed the warning - Render Using Lightroom and Open Anyway.
If you choose Open Anyway and PS doesn't have a compatible ACR then it launches but no image is opened. If PS ACR is compatible then the image is opened but no TIFF file is created in LR. It's as if the RAW file has gone through PS ACR then opened.
If you choose Render using Lightroom then a TIFF gets produced first, then passed to PS.
Elements is different as you don't get the above warning or choices but only the option to Edit a Copy With Lightroom Adjustments and a TIFF is created first.
Now, the above is for LR 5 and PSE7 and I wasn't sure if this was still the case with later versions of Elements.

I have LR6 and PSE 13... still works the same as far as I can tell. In the LR preferences you can choose between tiff or psd for the copy when sending a raw file to PSE.

I am having the same problem and its driving me Crazy! Today is was doing some editing in LR CC and when I tried to send them to Elements 13 via the edit in command it did not work. I tried several times, and one time it did open, but of course I don't know what I did differently.
I worked on that one image and then saved it back to LR, no problem. On to the next image, there is absolutely no way I can get it to open in Elements. I cleared the preferences, set up a new external editor preset, closed both LR and Elements, all to no avail. I am able to open the image in Elements from Finder so I know the image format is OK. Help.......
UPDATE After reading further, I reset my external editor preferences, delving deeper into the file structure I navigated to the Support Files and chose Elements 13 Editor from there and it now seems to be working OK.
Now to get back to what I was trying to do in the first place, a couple of hours ago.........
