I just read the following article on 10 items that you can get at pretty much any supermarket/DIY shop and re-purpose for your photography. Some of them are some nifty idea, which I had not previously thought about. So, I wonder, what run-of-the-mill items have you used in your photography that aren't necessarily meant for that task? In some of my still life experiments I have used bull-dog clips to hold background paper in place. I am also known to always have a roll of invisible sewing thread at home, which comes in handy when I want to suspend an item and not spend tons of time in cloning the thread out (although some clean up work is still required in most cases). I have just shaving foam to create clouds and a cornflower/water mix to simulate milk. Looking forward to your nifty ideas!

Sorry I don't have anything to add to your list but liked the suggestion of the multi-purpose opener. I have one that I bought specifically for filters but it really is rather flimsy and not easy to use. Thanks for sharing this Simone and I hope some of our members have some good suggestions to add to this post.

Thanks for sharing that with us Simone. Some great tips there and I liked yours as well. I wish I had something to add to this!

Getting just the right background can be a challenge. I've photographed backgrounds for stock using some of the wood panels and textures found in DIY stores using the carpet and paneling samples.

My grandson wanted to be a midget few weeks back so whilst he was staying with us for a few days we went in search of a nice size wooden chair which we found in an old 2nd shop, we asked if its okay to take a picture of it so we could show grandma before buying.! then we went to the park so my grandson could act out on a swing as if he was climbing up the chair, then home to do the editing.
In couple weeks three of our grandsons will be staying a few days so we are already inventing ideas, they are going to make face/eye masks to mount there mobile phones on the front, then we are going to take them to the local forest so they can view and record there forest venture.
