well...I should say - so far so good. I did manage to boot up and I did manage to connect to the internet. But really, I've only had 5 minutes of experience with the update. I hate updating my OS - I always feel that doom is at the end of that road - I waited until I was desperate I hope the upgrade helps some of the glitchy things I've been dealing with. El Capitan looks different - I hope it's not much different. I don't want to LEARN I just want to DO

LOL! It is *so* easy to relate to that sentiment Janice! Especially with those major upgrades that promise difference; sure, they say it is "better" but I was really really good with how it was. I hope it continues to feel like a success.

I have no idea what El Capitan is, but I am happy that things are "so far so good"
Myself, I look at all these "upgrades" with a sharp eye of suspicion.
I more so relate to the "don't put new wine in old bottles" and "don't patch your old jeans with new denim" school of thought; or, maybe it's just that this old dog has difficulties with new tricks.

I went straight from Mountain Lion to El Capitan. I'm surprised I didn't have to do it in steps. For a while there, it looked like it was stuck - I couldn't get it to boot, but eventually I got it back on. I did back up the most vital files before, though. I had planned to just let it go until I got a new Mac, but it was so glitchy, I figured things couldn't get any worse.
I miss System Restore. That was always my 'go to' plan when glitches got me down.
I'm not totally sold on Apple, especially now that quality control seems to have gotten away from them, but I will get another Mac because I don't want to go back to Windows now that I'm used to the Mac. Can't these things just work and let me play in peace?
