My iMac isn't even two years old yet but failed to boot up this weekend. After Mac Support couldn't walk me through the problem over the phone, I was told I would have to bring it into the Mac Store. My "Genius" ran their diagnostic testing and it was determined that the problem was a hard drive malfunction. Although she wasn't able to retrieve what was on my computer she told me all I had to do was use my Time Machine back-up. I had never needed to do that before and was amazed at how easy it was. While I hadn't run time machine in about a month, most of what I needed was on the back-up. My reason for sharing is to nudge some of you who may not have backed up your computer in awhile. So happy to be up and running again!!!!

An excellent example of backing up! As always - its not if your hard drive will die - its WHEN! ~bruce.

I once had a PC with dual hard drives - set up to mirror each other. Ironically, that was the only computer I've had where the hard drive failed. I just popped in a new hard drive and the computer did the rest. No remembering to back up, etc., easy. I wonder why I've never purchased that setup again?
Thanks for the reminder about backing up. I have a Mac, but no Time Machine. However, I have been careful to back up my layouts on an EHD
