Hi All,
I'm finding using a mouse difficult to use on layer masks etc.
Which one do you recommend....I have a budget up to about £100. I have a Samsung laptop with Windows 7 and a 20" HP monitor.
Thanks in advance.
regards, Richard

Hi Richard, Here is an article that may help. It is from the US, but prices should be within your budget range. I personally have a Wacom Intuos Pro Pen and Touch Medium, which I love. In the end it comes down to budget and what your requirements are, ie. WiFi, size, Touch or no Touch.

Is the Touch Medium a separate device to the Wacom? Thanks I'll take a look at the link now.

No Richard, that is the Model, see here for Specs and further info from Wacom. I should say though, that this particular model is outside of your price range you mentioned.

Thanks.....I've just ordered the Ugee M708 which has a large active area compared to the Wacom 490. Its under £46 so not a massive investment....so I will see how I get on with it compared to a mouse. Thanks for the advice.

We have the UGEE M1000L. The 1000L has a huge active area and I have found that a much smaller active area is actually preferable; as, with a large active area, one must relocate their hand/wrist to cover the necessary territory. Thankfully, the active area of the 1000L can be reduced and I have reduced ours to about 1/6 the size of the whole area. One bit of advice about pen tablets, regardless of brand, many operating systems have included pen tablet drivers that make the pen tablet do weird undesirable things; I just had an experience with this on a Windows 7 Pro computer; before installing the correct drivers for your new pen tablet, do a search on how to disable the generic tablet functions. On EDIT: A pen tablet is wonderful; however, I find the mouse better suited for many "normal" operations; so, I keep both connected and am frequently switching back and forth; changing from mouse to pen and back again is seamless and instant. On EDIT: Here is information I posted about how to disable the undesirable tablet functions : photoshopelementsandmore.com/thread/2678/pen-tablet-work

Thanks for the advice. From what I've seen on doing a general search on the product it is advisable to get the driver files from the Ugee web site....which I have done in advance. The M1000L has the same active area as the M708....I will have to see if it can be reduced. I intend, like you, to keep the mouse as well :-) I should get the M708 early next week.....so I may be posting other questions if I get stuck...ha ha.
Edit: I've also seen smudge guard gloves.....looks like a sensible idea....I will cut down some cheap cotton gloves at first to see if they work.
