Is there any way to disconnect photos from their group so I can apply different metadata to each picture?

By 'groups' do you mean 'stacks' or 'version sets' in the organizer? Then you have to swithch back to 'detailed' view (Ctrl D) and unstack the components of the 'group' to edit them separately (right click contextuel menu).

Yes, I think that is what I mean. I'm still trying to follow your suggestions but I can't seem to isolate just one picture to change it's metadata, leaving the rest of the group unchanged. I'll keep trying your suggestion and see if I hit upon it.
Thanks for helping. I'll probably be back.

Berie I did not pay attention to the fact that you have posted in the 'Lightroom' forum, so I thought that ist might have been an organizer problem.

Berie,
You want to be in the Library Module and in Grid View (hit "G" to get into this view). Right-click on the photo stack and select "Stacking\Expand Stack". Then you can individual select each photo to edit the metadata. Note that this won't work if you are viewing a Collection. You need to view all you photos.

Yes. That's it. So easy when you know how, so frustrating when you don't.
Thanks Sargenta1.
