Bonjour,
Thank you all. I appreciate the utility of a resource like Postimage.org for an organization like this one. I may use it a few times. I will however look to register to a service such as Flikr; on my list...
I also see Postimage as a very useful resource for forums like this one.
But thinking out loud and speaking very generally, the main issue I see with 3rd party online storage is what happens to my files if the 3rd party online storage suddenly goes "belly-up" and shuts its cyberspace doors overnight?
For irreplaceable files, of any type - photos, docs etc. etc., you might want to consider making your own backups on portable HDDs, or whatever, one local and one off-site (even buried in your backyard maybe).
HDDs are relatively cheap nowadays.
Also, what many people do not realise or tend to forget sometimes is that once you put a photo into cyberspace somewhere it is effectively "gone" and anyone on the planet with access to the Internet can most probably view it and take it. There is absolutely nothing you can do to stop anyone 100% from taking a photo they can see in their browser. People can simply click the "Print Screen" button on a keyboard, or as a last resort simply take a photo of their computer screen with a decent camera.
And finally, be aware that although you may select to "delete" a photo you have stored online somewhere, all you are most probably doing is marking it invisible with the photo remaining on the server. The owners/administrators of the server can still do what they like with your photos.
If you do not want people to take your published photos, all you can do to discourage them is to make them jump through some extra hoops to remove water marks you might have on the photos. But watermarks are only a discouragement, not a method to stop people taking your photos.
The bottom line here is: if you feel uncomfortable with someone possibly taking a copy of your published online photos, then the only way you can guarantee 100% someone won't take it, is to not publish/upload it in the first place.
Hope this helps
