Using PSE14, is it possible to create a border consisting of words (names of countries) around a page and then place photos within that page? Could not find a tutorial with exactly those elements.
Help greatly appreciated.

Hi Pat, Try looking for TEXT ON A SHAPE.

Another way -- use the Type Selection Option You can make a selection in the shape you want — any number of ways. One way to outline your page - grab the rectangular marquee tool and draw a rectangular selection.Once you have your selection outline, choose the Type on Selection option of the text tool and click once inside the selection. This tricks the tool into thinking it created the selection outline and gives you a check mark and a cancellation mark. Click the check mark. A solid line appears - click on the solid line and start typing. After you are done adding text, a couple of clicks and the solid line disappears leaving only the words.

The text remains totally editable - use spacing, text size, font, to make it look better. It takes a little patience to get the look you like.

For your project, I'd approach this a different way. I'd use a solid square to anchor my photos - moving them, sizing them, and the solid square around until I got the look I like. I'd then make a selection of the solid square and add the text. The solid square can then be deleted or kept as a background for your photos. Note: After you make a selection of the solid square by control/command clicking on the thumbnail of the layer, use select> modify> expand to make the selection large and thus, pull the text away from the solid square. After your selection is just the way you want it, proceed with the text selection tool.

A project I once did consisted of a group photo of international students. Below the photo I listed each student's name. Next to their name I placed their nation's flag. It was very well received. I just ensured I kept the flags all the same height so no one person's flag was bigger than another's. www.flags.net is World Flag Database.

Lucian - flags are an excellent idea for a page like hers.

Well, I'm certainly glad I looked back at this thread. I wrote a reply thanking everyone for helping me out with my question and thought I posted it, but now I don't see that post anywhere. Hmmmmm. . . . . Anyway, I did try out my idea and am thoroughly pleased with the results. I do appreciate the help. Knowing that what I wanted to do is possible makes all the difference.
For fotofrank and cats4jan, you probably recognize me and remember the mystery scan problem. I'm pleased to report that scanning is going well and am slowly making progress on my photo book project.
Again, thank you everyone.

Your welcome. So glad your scanning is going well. That's a big job to undertake.

This morning I could see that the words around the edge which make up the border were too close to the edge, especially on the left side where the book will be bound. I tried to move them in a bit, but it didn't work. What's more the text tool kept jumping to gradient or sponge or clone. I tried resetting the tools to default which seemed to work at first, but then the box with the green check mark and red circle with line thru it where a person accepts or does not accept appeared on the right hand corner and I couldn't get past it to finish adding the country names.
What can I do to fix this? It seemed to go so well the first time I did it, but not anymore.

Please disregard my previous post to this one. I did manage to get the words going the correct direction, though I hope I don't have to redo it because I kept trying things until one of them worked out. Not sure exactly how I did it. I need a good, hands on lesson about layers.
Apologies for wasting your time.
