...and so it begins!
I was disappointed to find that the icon for PSE 15 is the same as PSE 14, so I can't tell the difference visually. Sigh!
The first thing I ran into was the organizer catalog. The old one was named My Catalog14, but after letting v15 convert it, it has the same name. It renamed the old one My Catalog 14 1. When I ran v14 it no longer could find its catalog, but I opened My Catalog 14 1 and all was fine.
My first question is, is there any reason I should not rename the new catalog My Catalog 15 and the old one back to My Catalog 14, and if that is OK, how should it be done? I presume the renaming must be done within PSE.

I did find the catalog files in the folder C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Elements Organizer\Catalogs However, luckily I found how to rename them from within the Organizer. Way down in the right-hand corner of the screen I spied the catalog name: My Catalog14and when I clicked on it I got this dialog: By clicking on the catalog name in the window, the Rename button became active and I was able to use that to rename it. Yah! Next question, is there a way to migrate my editor settings from v14 to v15?

I could have dreamed this; but, as best I remember from reading in Woody ?___? version of Windows 7 for Dummies, there is a way to change task-bar and desk-top icons to custom designed ones; then, I could be wrong. On EDIT: Well...., I guess I wasn't imagining things; I Googled "create custom desktop icons in Windows 7" and got many many methods of creating custom icons; even ways to use photos as icons. I may just give it a try and see how it turns out.

I haven't found an answer to my question about the editor settings yet, so I guess I will just do those from scratch, as they come up.
On to the brushes, patterns, shapes and other static items. Since recent releases of Elements do not require them to reside in special folders these will not require any special handling.
I guess my next big task will be to locate and install the various plug-ins and add-ons; Ugh!
Does anyone know if any of the usual ones (On1, Topaz) can be easily re-nstalled from their websites, or do I have to locate all the downloaded files?

www.topazlabs.com/downloads
Or just copy the Topaz plug-in files from the Plug-Ins folder in Elements 14 and paste them in the same folder in Elements 15. That's what I did. One single copy/paste job took care of 14 Topaz plug-ins.

I believe Shapes (.csh) files still have to be installed in the appropriate folder in Elements 15 in order for them to be available to the Custom Shape tool. As far as I know, Adobe made no changes in the way they are handled in Elements. If you have Photoshop, yes, you can just load them at will but not in Elements.
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 15\Presets\Custom Shapes
NOTE: The Custom Shape and the Cookie Cutter tool share the same library of Shapes. This installation process will make the Shapes available to the Cookie Cutter tool as well.

UPDATE: I copied the entire contents of the v14 Plug-Ins folder into the v15 Plug-Ins folder and they all seem to work! I have Plug-Ins from: Auto FX Flaming Pear JixPix MV's Plugins Nix Collection ON1 Redfield Topaz However, every time I fire up PSE15 Editor I get the following message: At the bottom of the info is this: I will have to investigate more...

<snip> Does anyone know if any of the usual ones (On1, Topaz) can be easily re-nstalled from their websites, or do I have to locate all the downloaded files? I installed a PSE 15 trial copy which was identified by On1 Photo10 ... which enables "send to" from withing Photo 10. I use Photo 10 as stand alone and almost never send a photo from PSE to it. I noticed that all the Photo Merge apps now reside in guided. I think there's been improvement with exposure and panorama.

It has been my experience that it is not a good idea to just copy the entire contents of the Plug-Ins folder from one version of Elements to another. Some plug-ins do not "react" well to a Copy/Paste job. This is what the error message is telling you -- there is a faulty installation. The way to fix the problem is to identify the plug-in or plug-ins causing the problem. Remove one plug-in at a time and check if the message is gone. Once you found the culprit, if it has an .exe file, use it; if it doesn't try a fresh download (if possible).

Some plug-ins do not "react" well to a Copy/Paste job. Thanks for the thought Sepiana. That may well be true, but in my case it looks like all my 64-bit plugins have reacted well. The error message is being provoked by the presence of 32-bit plugins in the folder. Removing them did the trick.

The error message is being provoked by the presence of 32-bit plugins in the folder. Removing them did the trick. Believe me! It is true. I have seen this problem (Copy/Paste) happen again and again, especially with plug-ins which have lots of files.
The presence of a 32-bit file in the same folder with a 64-bit file doesn't seem to cause a problem in versions of Elements up to version 14 (the one you have). However, there have been reports that this is creating a problem in Elements 15. I don't really know the reason. I have contacted Adobe and the creators of the problematic plug-ins asking for an explanation.
