I am making a card for my brother's Golden Wedding. I did the picture below years ago, and can't remember how to put the glow on. It may have been when I was using PSP - before Elements. I can get a spotlight with Elements 2 & 11. But I can't manage the same effect as this picture. Any suggestions, please.

Hi whippet. Like most things, there is probably more than one way to create the glow effect. This is a quick and simple demo of how I do it. 1. Create a new layer. 2. Use the Elliptical Marquee Tool to make a circular selection with a very large feather to get the soft glow around the "light source". Fill the selection with the appropriate colour. 3. Create another blank layer and make it active (select it). 3. Select an appropriate brush and size and paint straight brush strokes from near the edge of the "light source" outwards to create the light rays. For this demo I used brush 54 in the Wet Media Brushes group (PSE 14). 4. Use Radial blur (Filter->Blur->Radial Blur) to blur the light rays to suit. 5. Adjust the opacity of this layer to suit. You will need to play around with the brush type, brush size and blurring until you get the look you are after. If you need more help, post back. Good luck

Don't know how it works in PSE14, but in PSE11, to get a straight line at a diagonal -- I click at the starting point - then I go to the end point and click while holding down the shift key. Don't know if this is the only way to do this, but it's the only way I know. Each new line must have a beginning and ending click.

Hi Whippet, This was an effect from good old PSP. it was called sunburst and was an illumination effect that I used to use a lot. There is no easy way to do this in elements but there is a tutorial for something similar here: Sun ray Effect (YouTube)

Thank you, I will give your suggestions a try. Yes, mrkrnbrd.I used it a few times, too. This is the only picture I could find with it on, now. Just had a look at your link. I think Infopuppet is brilliant - except for that voice. I remember now, I saw that tutorial some time ago.

Whippet, the lines in your original image are so fine and even that I wonder whether you may have used a brush preset rather than drawing them by hand. Take a look at these Manga Speedlines on deviantart. There are several similar sets on that site. www.deviantart.com/art/Manga-Speedlines-Brush-PS7-69484052I think in the past I have also used preset shapes for a similar purpose, but can't find them at the moment. ritage. The closest I can find in Elements 11, is in Filters, lighting effects. But that is still nothing like. As with the 'spotlight' thingy ( ), the lines on the one I used could be lengthened in a similar way. (I think).

This is Brush No 15 from the link in my above post. Still not as fine a yours, but you might find others that come closer. Apply to match the light spot at top left and drag to the lower right corner as far as desired.

Thanks, Pete, the obsidiandawn has some I tried to locate for Whippet, but I had them saved in a set with others and couldn't tell were they came from.

Hi Rita I also have the brushes in the obsidiandawn set and like you, I didn’t know where I got them. So an internet search answered my question and it also gave me the Busheezy set (which I downloaded). Hopefully Whippet (or others) will find the brushes helpful

I would if I could find where they have installed themselves to.

I would if I could find where they have installed themselves to. Brushes (.abr files) are installed in the Brushes folder within Elements. C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 11\Presets\Brushes I don't have Elements 2 to check but the path should be the same. Then, they will be displayed in the Brush Library Picker.

I would if I could find where they have installed themselves to. Whippet, they do not install "themselves". These are all .zip files. Download the .zip to a place you can find again. Unzip and save the resulting file(s). These are .abr files -- the brushes
In PSE 11 load to the location Sepiana shows you above.
In PSE 2, if I remember correctly, you must copy/paste them into the Explorer Folder, if you want to install them permanently Then restart PSE if it was running during the process.
or you can just temporarily load the .abr files into the brush folder from inside the brush panel > load brushes, similar to PSE 11
