In Digital Scrapbooking, adding descriptive text to your page is referred to as "journaling" In the thread "telling a story" I was talking about telling a story on your layouts using the photos (and some embellishments), but here I wanted to highlight journaling as a technique to add the 'story' to your page. When we make our layouts, the story behind them is crystal clear, but as the years go by, we tend to forget the details. Adding journaling to your page, will truly remind you of the feelings of the day. Don't be afraid of journaling. It can be as simple as a short sentence or some well-chosen words, or it can be the focus of your page. Without journaling, this layout would lose a lot of meaning:
And, who would know the story behind these photos without a little journaling?
Or something as simple as a sentence about a night out: Remember - journaling doesn't have to be paragraphs and paragraphs of text. A simple thought on a page is all you need.

These are all great Janice and the journalling does make a difference. You are perfectly correct when you say we tend to forget little details as time goes by but if you have it recorded in this way it keeps the memories alive.

I would create montages whenever I covered VIP visits or special events. For these events I always included a date in the final product. For 20+ years I or my crew would cover the Christmas Tree lighting ceremony or the opening of the dining facility for Thanksgiving. Dating the product and adding some text distinguished one year from another.

It's amazing how quickly we forget - especially dates. You can't imagine how many of my older layouts I wish I had journaled - or at least - dated. Even now, I find layouts I wish I had dated.
