Hi, I just purchased a 27" iMac with 8GB of memory and downloaded a trial version of PSE 15. It is slow, to say the least. It takes at-least 2-3 minutes just to open a CR2 file in ACR. My plan was to upgrade the iMac to 16 or maybe even 24GB of RAM but it turns out that the 27" screen is too big for me so I'm 'downgrading' to a 21" iMac with 16GB of memory. I've never used iMacs before nor have I used PSE 15. I have PSE 11 on a CD that I plan to install on the 21 imac. Please tell me that when I get the 16GB iMac with PSE11, it will be faster . I can't upgrade the RAM beyond 16Gb on the 21" so this is what I will have... thanks.

Hi kufloyd,
First of all, a disclaimer -- I am not a Mac user.
I believe Elements 11 on a Mac is a 32-bit app. Adobe didn’t release a 64-bit version of Elements for Mac users until version 12; Windows users had to wait until version 13.
Even when installed on a 64-bit OS, Elements 11 will install itself as a 32-bit app. This means that the maximum RAM available to Elements 11 is 4 GB (3.2 GB to be more precise). It makes no difference if you have additional RAM installed on your computer (8 GB, 16 GB, etc.). On the other hand, the 64-bit version of Elements (in your case -- Elements 15) will be able to take advantage of more RAM. The more RAM Elements can use the better. It will help with those features and/or tools which are memory-intensive. In short, it will enhance this program's performance.

thanks for the reply. It seems like I might have to consider upgrading from 11 to at-least 12 to take advantage of the additional RAM...

I have an older Mac. I wiped it out when I got it from my FIL three years ago - upgraded to Mountain Lion at that time - and am now on El Capitan although I don't really remember installing it. LOL I have PSE11 on it and up until my Mac developed so many glitches that all manner of stupid things are happening, PSE11 ran very well on my computer - starting with Mountain Lion - and upwards through the OS upgrades. Right now, I believe my problem is more about the Mac glitches than PSE11. I don't think you will have any difficulty with PSE11. I'd try using it for a while before upgrading. I have found PSE11 to be a very good version of Elements. Of course, I don't know what effect 32 bit vs 64 bit will have, but I know running with 4GB has not been a problem.
