This week's tutorial is from planet37 on Deviant Art. I have always liked that soft dreamy look but was never sure how to achieve the effect. I thought this tutorial was simple and effective. I created my images using pictures downloaded from pixabay using PE 11. Before: After: Before: After: View of Layers in PE 11: I used a bokeh background that I had in my files. If you don't have any and would like to add one you can search Free Bokeh Backgrounds to download. Some can be found here: I hope you have fun trying out this effect. As always finding the right image is key.

Thanks, Helen. A very unusual and interesting sequence of steps. Image from Pixabay.

Helen - Your applications of this effect are very nice. I gave it a try on a black and white image. My niece, my dog, and I were playing in a river several years ago. image hosting

kdcintx......it appears that the color fill layers have basically toned your image and the dreamy effect was lost. I never thought about adding this effect to a black and white image. I tend to doubt that it would produce the effect we're after here......at least using this tut.

Nice tut Helen - thanks very much for putting out there for us. In the first image I followed the tut to the letter. In the second image for the lens flare layer I applied a pin light blending mode rather than a screen. original image:

Thank you Helen for this challenge. I am really enjoying finding out all the different ways you can adapt this and the effects that you can achieve. Instead of using a Bokeh effect as per the tutorial I added a watercolour texture from Brusheezy. Photo from morguefile. Before After

Lillias, I'm glad you are finding variations for this tut. kdcintx....I'm glad you found a color photo to try this on.....it gives you more of a dreamy look.
