Need to solve a problem with the Rotate "function" which on my PSE 14 is located at the bottom of the screen. For no apparent reason it suddenly rotates the image I am working on. This has been going on ever since I installed PSE 14 about a year ago. Yes, I know I should have sorted this out a long time ago. Usually I am pressed for time and just manually rotate the image back into place. But I am so tired of this happening and it seems to be getting worse.
Any help appreciated.

Pat,
I am a bit hesitant to suggest you delete the Preferences file because it doesn't look like a case of this file suddenly getting corrupted/damaged. As you said . . . this has been going on since you installed Elements 14 about one year ago. But Elements can be full of surprises. Let's try it anyway.
Go to Edit>Preferences>General (Adobe Photoshop Elements Editor>Preferences> . . . on a Mac). Click on the "Reset Preferences on next launch" button. Ignore the "This cannot be undone." warning and click OK. Close Elements and then start it again.

Before you reset your preferences - Is you camera set to auto rotate the image?
It may the EXIF information from the camera that is placed in the image that Elements is reading.
Does this happen with image directly from the camera, scanned, renamed?

Is you camera set to auto rotate the image? Frank, great thinking! This could be the root of the problem.

Most of my still images were shot using a Nikon Coolpix P100. Some were taken with an iPad or my Panasonic vidcam. I looked at the manual for the Nikon. It has a section about rotating photos, but it does not refer to anything like auto rotate. It's all done manually, which I never do. The process is the same for all images. I load them from camera into the Photos program. Photos is just a storage place for the photos. All work done on them is in PSE 14.

Oh, one other thing. Photos are not renamed until I have worked on them.

Before I posted here about this rotating issue, I had planned to uninstall PSE 14 and try a new install with preferences set as they were originally at the beginning. That is still an option I am willing to consider. I'm going to have someone else with me who knows more than I about uninstalling and installing back in.
Does that sound reasonable?

I would only try it as a last resort - I doubt it would solve anything.

Yes, it definitely is a last resort. And I believe you are probably right. I will keep trying to solve it without having to reinstall.

I would reset preferences first and see if it works before un-installing and re-installing. Use Sepiana's post above on how to do it.
