For some time, I had been wishing for a "copy/paste mask" command and last night I decided to see if there was such an ability in Elements + (Elements 7 )
In the mask dialogue box I found a command that, while not having the abilities of a true copy command, it sufficed to accomplish what I needed, the "duplicate mask" command.
After finding this handy command, I was just duplicating masks to a fare-thee-well, and happy as could be with this new-found ability.
I had to quit for a while; and, when I returned, try as I may, I cannot get it to duplicate a mask.
The other commands in the same dialogue box that I tried worked as they should; I just cannot get the "duplicate mask" command to do anything.
I thought I had it figured out, but obviously I don't; what am I missing ?
Thanks for reading.
On EDIT: I have since closed the editor, restarted the computer, and reopened the editor and still I can get no response from the "duplicate mask" command.

Sorry Buckskin I don't know the answer to your question using Elements+ or Elements 7. This reply is only for people who want to copy a layer mask from one layer to another and are using Elements 9-15. It's easy to do. Instructions at this website, with both a video and text instructions: digitalscrapperclasses.com/free-content/06-copy-layer-mask-el.html

I thought I had it figured out, but obviously I don't; what am I missing ? Thanks for pointing out this very cool script BuckSkin ! I had not used it before I saw your post, so gave it a try. I think I have figured out how to use it, and have a guess at what is giving you a hassle. I first select a layer that has a layer mask, then go to the e+ Masks... dialog. Now double-click Duplicate Layer Mask. The e+ Masks... dialog is replaced with a new dialog titled Duplicate Layer Mask which has a drop-down containing a list of all the layers. When I pick one and click OK, that layer inherits the layer mask. However, it didn't work if I selected a layer that already had a layer mask, even if the mask was empty. Perhaps that is what is happening to you? In any case, I think that may be a slight bug in Elements+; it should either replace the existing mask with the copied one, or not list the layers with existing masks (it does know not to list locked layers). Anyway, I hope that helps, but if not let's keep talking.

Perhaps that is what is happening to you? Thanks, tpgettys, you hit the nail square on the head ! I don't know if I ever would have figured that out; last night, I wasn't having the least bit of trouble placing duplicate masks here and there; and then today, try as I might, it wouldn't do a thing. After reading your post, I tried again; and, so long as there was no mask at all, everything worked fine; however, if I tried the command on a layer that already had a blank mask, then no go. I guess if I wanted to add a duplicate mask to one of the adjustment layers that comes with mask provided, I could use the "delete mask" command that resides in the same dialogue, and then add my duplicated mask. Also very handy and goes right along with the "duplicate mask" command is the "invert mask" command. Thank you for being quick enough to ferret out the cause of my frustrations. Although the "duplicate mask" command is not a "copy mask" command that can be carried to different images, if I have need to use a particular mask on a different image, I can just drag a masked layer onto the new image and then duplicate the mask within the new image; once I get a duplicate of the mask, the layer it rode in on can be scrapped.

That had not occurred to me; great insight! I'm glad we got a resolution to what was causing you frustration.
