Hi everyone,
I created an action (.atn file) to transform an image into an orb but an orb with a twist, I mean, with a swirl and a twirl. Feel free to download it and give it a try. I tested this action in PSE 7, 10, 11 and above. It worked just fine. I believe the same will hold true for PSE 8 and 9.
If you have PSE 11 and above, load the .atn file via either the Actions panel or the Effects panel.
If you have PSE 7 through 10, you need to install this action so that it can be accessed via the Action Player (Guided Edit>Automated Actions>Action Player).
Windows: C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\x.x\Locale\en_us (or your locale)\Workflow Panels\actions
Mac: Hard Drive>Library>Application Support>Adobe>Photoshop Elements>x.x>Locale>en_us (or your locale)>Workflow Panels>actions
NOTE: Before running this action, crop your image to a square.

Beautiful. They look like glass paperweights . . . which I love.

Thank you Sepiana. I have had a quick swirl and twirl with it on my Win 10 machine with PSE 15 and it works fine.

Thank you, Sepiana, works flawlessly
Rita, beautiful results! I really like the third orb (blue/green). Which blending mode did you use?

Thank you Sepiana. I have had a quick swirl and twirl with it on my Win 10 machine with PSE 15 and it works fine. BillieJean, thanks for trying this action! Hopefully you will share your "quick swirl and twirl" with our members.
As a side note for anyone following this thread . . .
Actions are not OS-dependent; this action should work for both Windows and Mac users. On the other hand, it is crucial that, when you record an action, you use commands that Elements will "understand". If you run an action in Elements containing commands which this program doesn't "understand", this message will pop up. Can you ignore it and click on the "Continue" button? Definitely! But the final results may not be what you had in mind.

Rita, beautiful results! I really like the third orb (blue/green). Which blending mode did you use? Sepiana, that was my favorite, too. The Blend Mode is Exclusion. The others were Overlay and either Hard Light or Vivid Light.
My workflow, if someone wishes to try it: Duplicate original layer Flip Duplicate Layer vertically Change Blend Mode Merge the 2 layers Flatten to create Background Layer Run Action on Background

whippet, thanks! Hope you give this action a try and share your creations with our members. I have just had a try. As it was a practice, I used a picture from my folder. I cropped it too close at the bottom, so was unable to change the background from black. I could not find how to 'set current layer'. I shall try again, Sepiana. At least I managed to download the atn. file into Elements. So I am learning. photos upload

whippet, you are on the right track. You are almost there. I could not find how to 'set current layer'. Don't worry about this step (or any other step). The action will take care of it all.
If you loaded the .atn file via the Actions panel (Window>Actions), just click on the line that says "Sepiana's Swirly & Twirly Orbs" to select (highlight) it. Then, click on the Play button in the panel’s upper right corner. The action will run its course and stop when the effect has been achieved.
If you loaded the .atn vile via the Effects panel, just double-click on the action thumbnail to run it.

Tip: You can use Hue adjustments to alter colors. It works well with twirls. Multiply blend mode.

BillieJean - I really like the orb with the Color Burn blend mode. Very vibrant colors!
