As you all know, one tool has to be selected in the Tools panel all the time. When you open the Editor, Elements will activate whichever tool you last used before closing the program. Therefore, it is a good idea to "park" on a neutral tool such as the Marquee Selection tool, the Hand tool, or the Zoom tool. For example, you don't want to "park" on the Pencil or the Brush tool. Click on your image by accident and you will end up with a line or a spot on it.

Very very good advice, Sepiana.
Long long ago, way back in dark and ancient times, I got in the habit of ALWAYS pressing the "H" key after using any tool.
This does two things for me; the hand tool is harmless and therefore won't produce any unwanted surprises on your image; and, whenever the hand tool is active, there are three viewing options on the tool options bar, 100% view, print view, and fit-to-screen; thus, I can click the fit-to-screen button and bring my image back to viewable size.
I wish I could get this habit drilled into my wife's granite head.

Very very good advice, Sepiana.
Thanks, BuckSkin! And I practice what I preach. Before closing Elements, I usually safely park on one of the neutral tools I mentioned.

I only mention this in case somebody doesn't heed your advise lol Obviously! That's why I didn't mention Ctrl-Z. Great tip though. Thanks!
