A few months ago, I was given a slightly used laptop, so I decided to use it primarily as a second source for my pictures. I copied my pictures to it from my main computer with a usb drive, and all was well. I recently discovered virtually all the pictures on the second laptop have been duplicated, and I now have 2 copies of nearly every picture on the second laptop. I am using Windows 10 on both units. Are the 2 computers synchronizing the pictures with each other? I haven't noticed any duplication in Documents, only in Pictures! Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks Wayne

Are you logged into your Microsoft account on both computers? That is the only way I can see that they could have synchronized.

Are these duplicates in the same folders as the originals, or have the folders been duplicated as well ? Do the duplicates have "copy" or similar suffix added ? Nothing to do with your duplicates, but I highly recommend LAN network connecting all of your machines, thus you can access each from the other; this is far better done with Ethernet cables instead of wireless. When networked together, you can send files from one to the other simply by drag-&-drop in Explorer. Another thing I highly recommend is the free file synchronizing program Synchredible. www.ascomp.de/en/products/show/product/synchredible/tab/descriptionI have mine set to synchronize every thirty minutes and it keeps the contents of both of my external hard-drives duplicated; if I edit a file in one drive, it replicates what I have done on the other. It also works across a network, synchronizing one computers folders with another.

Thanks for the quick replies, I have company right now, but appreciate the quick answers.
The duplicate pictures are in the same folders, and for example, the original is named DSC_1234 and the copy right beside it is DSC_1234-1
When I get some time, I'll check the link you sent. But I have trouble understanding why the Pictures are duplicating, but not the documents!

Hi Wayne,
I am joining in because I had a similar experience with Windows 10.
I have Windows 10 on two computers -- one came with it; the other one was an upgrade from Windows 8.1 (done at a Microsoft store). On the machine which came with Windows 10, I suddenly had duplicate photos. I went to the Windows 10 Forums and learnt that this kind of duplication occurred on Windows 8.1 and now it has surfaced on Windows 10. They posted fixes for it. Unfortunately, I don't remember which one worked in my case. I chickened out and had a friend of mine (who is a tech at our local Microsoft store) come over and fix it for me. This happened some time last summer. As of this writing, the problem has not returned.

Alas..........., it is humbling when one learns that their hero has fled from the fight.
