Hi
Rather belatedly, a couple of PSE friends and I are discussing using downloaded templates to create calendars.
The question has been posed as to 'How can one change the background colour, without changing the font colour?'
Is this possible, please? I've been unable to find an answer to this question. Obviously, there are times when using a downloaded template is preferred.
I am able to create my own calendar 'templates' using Excel, save as PDF and use 'Place' to bring into the Calendar document in PSE and therefore it's transparent, so I can make the background whatever colour I like.
Many thanks Julie

Julie,
I am not sure I understand the question but . . . are you talking about a downloaded calendar which has a white background and not a transparent one? You should be able to use the Magic Wand to delete the white background. Just make sure that the "Contiguous" setting is turned off in the Tool Options bar. This would give you a transparent background and it would not affect the color of the font. Then, you could just place the calendar on the background of your choice.

Julie, if you want to go down this route, you may want to check these calendars by Panos (PSD format). They are highly customizable. You can change the colors, the language, the photos, etc. And a bonus? Panos is a member here. You can easily contact him if you have any questions.

Many thanks, Sepiana, for your reply Yes, I've seen these actions, and the calendar before (although for a previous year). They're excellent, of course. Panos produces some brilliant stuff. Unfortunately, this is not really what I'm looking for. I've been thinking hard about this question and, I'm wondering if there's been some misunderstanding, previously, whereby my friend was trying to use a png, or jpg, from Google images. Png files could be transparent. of course, if the background has been excluded. The downloadable files in pdf, or Excel (and then can be edited) then saved as pdf, work well, especially if 'Place' is used. I've looked on internet and there are tons of links available so it sounds as if my friend and I should meet up and work through downloading, editing and saving as pdf to use in a calendar Many thanks for your suggestions. Also, thanks so much for reminding me of Panos' site. I really would like to spend some time working with the actions he has so kindly made available. Julie

Png files could be transparent. of course, if the background has been excluded. Your friend can still use a calendar in the .jpg format. The file can be turned into a template (PSD format, transparent background).
1. Duplicate the background layer. 2. Activate the Magic Wand tool. Make sure that "Contiguous" is turned off. 3. Click on any one of the daily white squares. This will select all the white squares. 4. Press Delete. 5. Hide or Delete the original background layer. 6. Save in the .psd format to preserve background transparency.
I will save you a trip. -- brucephilpott.com/photos/calendar.htm
