Elements 7: Lately, I have lost the ability to select the active image by clicking on it at the bottom of the "Window" menu; instead, I now have to un-hide the project bin, try to discern which is the one I want, and double-click it from there.
Is this a problem that deleting the "preferences" will fix ?
If so, I never have any success doing the following:
Quote from the old Elements Village:
Someone (Sepiana I think) showed me a navigation path where I could manually delete the file and I am having no luck in finding that information now.
Also, if deleting the preferences is in order, I am assuming that I had best close Elements before doing so, right ?
Thanks for reading.

I am not sure this is a case of a corrupted Preferences file. Before you go down this route, go to the Window menu on the top bar. Make sure that "Project Bin" is checked. When this option is checked, Elements will remember it and will keep this bin open.
If this doesn't solve the problem and you need to delete the Preferences file, here are the instructions to do it manually. Navigate the path below and delete the Adobe Photoshop Elements 7 Prefs.psp file. NOTE: Keep Elements closed as you do this.
C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\7.0\Editor\Adobe Photoshop Elements 7 Prefs.psp

Thank you, Sepiana. I investigated the "Project Bin" check-mark; before I messed with anything, clicking on any of the image names at the bottom of the "Window" menu did nothing; after I clicked the check-mark ON/OFF a few times, I got it to working BUT only on the top-most and bottom-most file-names; any image names/numbers in between the top and bottom were still unresponsive. An observation about that "Project Bin"check-mark: hiding or revealing the project bin via the button in the bottom-left of the editor window toggles that check-mark back and forth. Before I make an executive decision, what are the cons of deleting the preferences ?

First of all, this is what the Help file says about the Preferences file.
There's nothing to be afraid of. If you do a search here and, for example, on the Adobe Photoshop Elements forum, you will see this is the usual recommendation when Elements "misbehaves". The Preferences file is where Elements keeps track of your preferred settings. When you delete this file, Elements will automatically generate a replacement file. The only downside is that the replacement file will have the settings back to the default. This means that you will have to redo any changes you made. For example, if you have rearranged the panels, you will have to do it again because they will be back to their original (default) positions. As a side note -- Elements has two separate Preferences file, one for the Organizer and one for the Editor. The procedure described in my previous post will affect only the Editor's Preferences file.
