I was wondering if anyone here has tried On1's photo 2017 yet?

It is a work in progress. the On1 people started from the ground up on this one - building a dRAW converter that you can add styles/effects non-destructively to the actual RAW file (uses a "sidecar" to keep track of the information). I believe that it is taking longer then expected for them to get everything working in the right way. They have been adding tools that were very beneficial in ON1s Photo 10 - but it is taking time. I have been using it and like what it's capabilities are. Some have called it a beta program. I think it's a little further along then that. You can download a trial and see more information about it here: www.on1.com/products/photo-raw/~bruce

I like ON1 products and have used their Effects 9 and 10 programs with success. Unfortunately, my trial version of their ON1 Photo 2017 ran very slow despite my PC meeting all minimum requirements. I had hoped to switch over from my PSE9 since it doesn't provide RAW support for my Fuji and Olympus cameras. Still considering other options.

I've been a happy user of On1 Products for a few years. I have On1 Photo RAW 2017 installed and use it frequently. I must rely on ACR for lens corrections because RAW hasn't implemented as yet. I'd suggest giving the free 30 day trial a spin. There are many advantages of RAW one can easily use the develop module, switch to the effects module, discover that they've over processed something in develop and seamlessly switch back to make a final adjustment - and yes there are layers in the develop module.

I've used ON1 product for awhile and have generally been happy. They offer a lot of nice functionality and a lot of built-in effects. I do find them to be less polished than the Adobe products - they crash more often, the performance isn't always as smooth, and they definitely don't work as well on my high-DPI laptop screen. As others have said - give the free trial a spin.

I have been using ON1 products for a long time and in general have been pleased with them. However, I have to agree with Andy, they don't seem to be as "polished" as the Adobe products. My suggestion would be . . . download the free trial and test the waters. In this way, you will be able to make an informed decision, one which will meet your needs and interests.
As a side note -- I got ON1 Photo 2017 a few days ago. It seems to launch faster and run more smoothly than the now-discontinued ON1 Photo 10.5.

The latest update made some improvements. The first one I noticed is that it works with high resolution displays.
