If you need to Rotate a selection by using Transform, but do not want to use any of the default 9 anchor points:
1. Hold the the Alt key, (option key), and click on the location you want to be the rotation point. 2. The center rotation Anchor point moves to were you clicked. 3. The new rotation point can be inside or outside the selection. Try it - alt, click and rotate normally. For anchor points outside the selection, to see how it works, try rotating in a complete circle.

Moto, you are brilliant! How on earth did you come across this trick? I have done this manually in connection with animations, and it's a pain to do it that way.
Works even in my ancient CS5, so it must have been around a long time.
Thanks for sharing. Rita

I totally agree. I have been doing it manually as well when I work with animations. This is much easier. Thanks, Moto!
