Hello to all from Southampton UK. I thought I would re-introduce myself. Have been away from the scene for some time (various reasons) but hope to be around again. I've just upgraded my camera to a Canon Eos 80D. Really impressed.
Regards, Phil.

Welcome back, Phil. I have a friend who is considering the 80D. When you have a chance you tell us a bit about what you find most impressive? Thanks!

Welcome back, Phil. I have a friend who is considering the 80D. When you have a chance you tell us a bit about what you find most impressive? Thanks! Thanks For the Welcome back hmca. I previously had the 70D and the only issue I had was noise levels particularly in dark shadows. I did some research into the 80D and due primarily I think to an updated sensor the expectation was for better noise performance. I read all the usual reviews and all said this issue was much improved which has turned out to be the case, so I was justified in upgrading. I primarily take landscape images and use Live View a lot and like the 70D the 80D has much improved Live View focusing capability over previous models. Hope that helps.

Thanks, Phil. I have sent her the link to this thread. She is trying to make up her mind between 7D II and 80 D....weight and noise are two issues that concern her. You can read all the reviews on the internet but it is nice to hear from just a regular consumer.

You can read all the reviews on the internet but it is nice to hear from just a regular consumer. I think a lot depends on what type of photography your friend does most. As I understand it the 7D II is mainly aimed at action/sports/wildlife etc as it has superior burst rates etc. The 80D is more geared towards landscape/video because of the superior live view performance with Duel Pixel technology (whatever that means to us mortals) with the variangle LCD screen.
