I'm hoping someone could point me possibly in the right direction to find an action to perform a specific task.
Full disclosure, I use Elements (v15) as little as possible, I just dont have the 'gene' to take advantage of even it's tools. But..........I have been tasked with modifying a picture for my sister's project.
Long story short, I need to find an action that will take an existing image, and allow me to 'rip' the photo in half, or optimally at the point of my choosing. Ive seen several actions for CS6 on up, and 'most' of them either appear to not specify whether they will work with Elements, and almost all are for having ripped edges, not at other point I did find one (again, did not specify Elements compatibility), but the rip effect would be random
This is for a one off project, so trying to learn enough Elements to use some brush or other process is not likely to happen.
Any help is appreciated. I am good telling my Sis she is out of luck

Open your image and make sure your Layer Palette is visible. Press Ctrl-J to duplicate the Background Layer. This is Layer 1 Turn off visibility of Background Layer by clicking on the eye Type the letter L to activate the Lasso Tool from the Tool Box Draw from the right top corner of the image down to the right bottom corner, then to the right along bottom edge to the point where you wish to start the tear, then up to the top edge in a waving line, then left back along top edge to where you started. Release the mouse button now --- Not before! You see marching ants. Ctrl-J to put this selection on a new layer. This is Layer 2. Ctrl-Click on the thumb nail in Layer 2 to re-activate the marching ants Click on Layer 1 to activate it and press Delete
You now have two separate pieces of your image to drag to wherever you want them.
Go ahead and make your sister happy!

Hi swilliams284, welcome to PSE&M!
I am not aware of any action to create a ripped-in-half photo effect written specifically for Elements. The one I use is for Photoshop.
Old Photo with Torn Ripped Effect Photoshop Action
If you have come across such an action but it is not clear if it works in Elements, I would suggest you contact the creator of the action. Sometimes the action may work in Elements (and the information on the website is not clear).
I understand you don't want to create this effect from scratch and I respect your decision. However, I will go ahead and bring up this tutorial. It guides you step-by-step through the process of creating the effect you want.
Creating Torn Edges in Photoshop and Photoshop Elements
EDIT:
I thought Panos, the Guru of Action-Writing, had created such an action for Elements. However, I cannot find it on his website.

Panos happens to be a member here. You could send him a PM inquiring about it.

Thanks for the quick reply
The action you linked above was one I had looked at, but cant tell whether it would work with Elements or not. Trying to reach out to the author
I looked at Panos' site as well previously, I thought I remembered something there at some point, but not seeing anything.
I'll try PMing him as well

You are most welcome! Glad to help.
I also have Elements 15. I tried to run that action in Elements but it didn't work. I kept getting the "famous" warning that the command was not available.

Sepiana contacted me and asked me if I had created such an action for PSE. Unfortunately not. I am sorry that I can't help. It's a nice suggestion for a future action.
Kind regards Panos
