What is the Deal with Adobe locking My Elements 13 and treating it as temporary software, when it was installed and registered when i installed it on this computer about 3 years ago. so i had to dig out my old software CD and get the serial number and get my adobe password reset just so i could use the software i bought and registered, did they lose their data, where can i complain to, i tried their site but didn't wont to agree to the contract to their site i am not a lawyer and i do not have time to read the long and confusing things they put out for me to agree to. Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi transformer, Your only option is to communicate with Adobe's Help desk to get this issue resolved. If you follow the link it will get you to their customer care page, which will offer some articles depending on your problem and if those don't help there is a contact button which will enable you to contact them via live chat. With regards to terms and conditions, while I understand your reluctance on this item, I don't think there is much use in being worried. If you have a computer/laptop, cellphone, etc, and you use software, you are agreeing to terms and conditions which you cannot negotiate (if you wanted to) just by using the software. In most cases, they are lengthy and wordy and I recently read somewhere that if we were to read all the terms we are agreeing to on a daily basis you would loose weeks in just reading them. My advise, if it is established software (like Adobe or Microsoft say) there is no reason to worry.

Hi transformer,
I may be wrong (and someone, please, correct me if I am) but this looks like a case of a corrupted (damaged) license file. Do you get an error message? If so, you could try this . . .
Adobe Licensing Repair Tool
If the problem doesn't get solved, the next troubleshooting step would be to uninstall/reinstall Elements. This may do the job.
where can i complain to, i tried their site but didn't wont to agree to the contract to their site i am not a lawyer and i do not have time to read the long and confusing things they put out for me to agree to. Besides contacting Adobe's Help Desk as suggested by Simone, you could also take this issue to either one of the Adobe forums below.

Thank You Storkington and Sepiana for the quick reply! I resolved the issue of not being able to use the software. it is the trouble and the time i had to go through to do it, like having to get my pass word reset, finding my CD that i hadn't seen in 3 years and getting the serial number and and inputting it. I know if i were a hacker or software thief i would not have these hassles it is the people who try to do the right things that get the short end of the stick. enough of my soap boxing about this. Thanks for the information this is a great site always good information here.

The OP didn't need the CD as such, he needed the serial number.

Yes, you are quite right. All the OP needed was the serial number. Glad I was wrong and it was not a case of a corrupted license file.

Just as a hint to anyone reading this thread, after a similar episode that we had a few years ago that put me to prowling through drawers, shelves, and boxes in search of an installation CD to find a license key/code, I now have two other records of all of our various license codes.
One is I have a spiral notebook in which I write down all of the codes and all other pertinent information about each program.
The other is I have a sheet-sized ziplock bag that hangs on a nail behind the calendar with all of the information written on a sheet within said bag.
If one has a long enough nail, you would be surprised to learn just how many important details one can store behind a calendar.

I save all of my license numbers in a file on my computer. Has the added benefit that if I need to use one again I can just copy and paste.

I do the same as Craig -- a word-processing file>copy/paste the license numbers when needed.
