In a previous thread, I tapped into the expertise of this forum with a question about adjusting color using fill selection and soft light on a book cover. The final result, by the way, is better than I would have ever imagined. Thank you again for that.
My current project has a background of a parched, cracked reservoir lakebed to carry the message of devastating drought conditions, and an overlying layer will show a trickle of water just beginning to flow out of a faucet. Both the background and the overlying layer are predominantly gray, and I want to try adding some color to the water for visual and symbolic contrast with the dryness of the lakebed.
I need to admit up front that I haven't learned nearly enough about all the tools in the Enhance PSE 14 menu, much less all the blending modes, to even know where to start. Any suggestion to help me past the initial "What do I try first?" confusion would be much appreciated.
Tosh

Mike -
It might help if you posted an image of what you have so far.

I am going out on a limb here and with just this information . . .
There is more than one way to accomplish what you want. For starters, just to get the ball running.
Using a Hue/Saturation Adjustment layer
1. Create a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer for the faucet/water layer 2. In the H/S dialog box select "Colorize". 3. Adjust the sliders until you get the color you want.
NOTE: If you want to change only the color of the water and not of the faucet, you need to first make a selection of the water using which whichever selection tool you feel comfortable with.
Using a Solid Color Fill Adjustment Layer

If you want to use the Replace Color command in the Enhance menu, here are Adobe instructions how to go about it.

Mike - It might help if you posted an image of what you have so far. Thanks for the suggestion, but at this point I'm still working with low-res, demo-only images to test out their suitability for what I need. The last time I tried to post them, I quickly learned to stop doing that . . . Tosh

Thanks, Sepiana, although I notice that it took you almost 38 minutes to reply . . . I'm on it! Will report! The idea would be to add an adjustment layer to the background to enhance the idea of drought. That could be a simple hue/sat adjustment layer to desaturate and possibly to add a brownish tint with the 'colorize' checkmark; or a photo adjustment layer; or a gradient map adjustment layer with reduced opacity. Then, for the new layer, I imagine a mask to show the faucet and water drops only, superimposed on the background layer. To enhance the color and saturation of the water, a hue/sat adjustment layer 'clipped' to the second layer (Ctrl G) with a black mask where you disclose the water by painting white on the mask.
