For the last several weeks, in the Elements 7 Editor, when I choose to open a recently edited file, I make my selection from the list, but nothing happens; the list disappears, but no little spinning blue circle, nor any reaction whatsoever.
I haven't been messing around in preferences and have always left the number of recently edited files at whatever the default is.
I don't use the feature very often, but it is quite handy when I think of something else I meant to do before saving.
Thanks for reading.

I'm not sure this will help but . . .
Launch Elements by right-clicking on the desktop shortcut and selecting "Run as administrator". Then, check to see if the problem is gone. If it is, close the program and open it again. But this time do it as a standard user. This has been proven to fix quite a few glitches in Elements.
If the above doesn't work, try deleting the Preferences file. According to the Help file, . . .
To do this in your version of Elements . . .
Hold down Alt-Ctrl-Shift immediately after Elements begins launching. Click Yes to delete the Adobe Photoshop Elements settings file.

Another big THANKS! to Sepiana; I probably would never have stumbled upon that idea myself. I opened the Editor as administrator, successfully opened a few recently edited files, then closed and reopened normally and was able to open recently edited files once again. I will try to remember this trick. Actually, I have PDFXchangeEditor on four of our machines and for a few years it would always function flawlessly regardless as to how it was opened; then, one-by-one on all four machines, it got to where it would open but not function properly unless opened via "Run as Administrator"; it performs flawlessly so long as opened as administrator. Once it started misbehaving, I have never been able to get it to work normally. Thanks for the idea !

Hold down Alt-Ctrl-Shift immediately after Elements begins launching. This doesn't seem to work with PSE 15; is there a different method for it?

Tom -
Why would you need that for PSE15?

My suggestion was targeted to the version of Elements BuckSkin is having the problem with -- Elements 7.
To do this in your version of Elements . . .
Adobe made it much easier to delete the Preferences file in Elements 11 and above. Go to Edit>Preferences>General (Adobe Photoshop Elements Editor>Preferences> . . . on a Mac). Click on the "Reset Preferences on next launch" button. Ignore the "This cannot be undone." warning and click OK. Close Elements and then start it again.
NOTE:
Adobe has not "deactivated" the three-key combo alternative to delete the Preferences file in Elements 11 and above. As you can see from my screen shot below, it works just fine. If you had a situation in which the Editor was freezing/crashing at start-up and you had no time to get to Edit>Preferences, you would need a Plan B. As a matter of fact, Adobe even has a Plan C in place -- locate the Preferences file and delete it manually.

Thanks for replying Sepiana. Perhaps my PSE launched too fast to see the key-presses; I tried it several times, fingers always on the ready after PSE is launched, but no response. The other method is much more certain anyway!

One more suggestion: If the keyboard shortcut doesn't work for you, just delete the Preferences file manually.
For example, for PSE15 under Windows, the path looks like this: C:\Users\<Your User Name>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\PhotoshopElements\15.0\Editor\Adobe Photoshop Elements 15 Prefs.psp
PSE15 on a Mac: /Users/<Your User Name>/Library/Preferences/Adobe Photoshop Elements 15 Settings/Adobe Photoshop Elements 15 Prefs.psp

Why would you need that for PSE15? Good question! ...and after seeing Sepiana's response I even understand your question. The answer is that my senior moments seem to coming ever more frequently; such is life.

Try as I may, I have never had any success with the Alt-Ctl-Shift method and have always had to resort to deleting the file manually.

I am pretty sure it is not a valid sequence on my computer. I highlight the PSE icon on the desktop so that pressing the Enter key will launch it. I then position my fingers over the Alt-Shift-Ctrl keys, tap Enter and then the 3 keys as fast as possible but PSE launches without offering anything.

This seems to be [Alt+Shift+Ctrl+Enter] -- i.e., not [Alt+Shift+Ctrl] -- shortcut. Please, try using mouse-double-click instead of [Enter] key.

Hi tpgettys Indeed, the Desktop link doesn't work like this. (I'm sorry for not testing it before.)
However, PSE links in the Start menu and on the Task bar work.
