Following that great animation by Ritage in the ‘Endless Possibilities Challenge No 102 Sunrise’ - I just had to give it a try and after several failures this is what I have ended up with. It needs some polishing but at least I know what I’m aiming for now. Pics from pixabay Just hope the animation works when I upload it…here goes... OK slight hiccup - I just uploaded it in the normal way using imgbb.com on the forum here but it appears that you then have to click on the photo to see the actual animation. Don't know if it's me that's done something wrong. Hopefully Rita will be along at some point to show me where I've gone wrong...lol.

Did a slightly different version of the above...probably still won't animate till you click it though...

Lillias.....I think you're on your way! I like the change in the second one with her slipping behind the curtain.

I remember a time when I dabbled in animation. It's fun, isn't it. It's amazing what one can do on a computer nowadays. Great job. BTW - I don't mind clicking on the image to get the animation.

Don't know if it's me that's done something wrong. You have done nothing wrong. I am afraid that's the way it is when you use imgbb.com to upload an animated GIF. Just add a note saying . . . "Click on image to see animation".
Another possibility is to use postimage. I believe that's what Rita used. Then, you will see the animation immediately.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. It's much appreciated.
Sepiana I think I'll wait and see what Rita says when she eventually sees my posts. I'm not in a hurry and in the meantime I can put in a bit more practice with the actual animation side of things.

BillieJean, You figured it out by yourself. Great! and very nice for a first attempt. I see your image is 510KB which is probably too large for imgbb to insert directly. It used to work up to around 700KB, but that changed a while ago. I used postimage, which does not seem to have a size restriction.
By the way, if you wish to re-animate my entry in PSE, you first have to downsize it, because it is too large for Save for Web to handle. About 500px on the long side will work. I made the original in ImageReady.

I may be wrong but I don't think size (in KB) plays a role here. The first image BillieJean posted is 641 x 360 px, 309.1 KB. You still need to click to see the animation.

I am not aware of the change you mention. I will check with the other Mods/Adms.

Sepiana,
You may be right. I just don't know, because I did no experiments when I found I could no longer get larger files inserted directly. But I was successful with that until a while ago. It seems at one point we changed plugins, maybe that's when the change happened. The first time I used postimage was for the chewing rabbit a few weeks ago.

This is the setting I used to re-animate my entry in PSE14, which I promised to post in the other thread. One can, of course experiment with these values. But this worked well.
The cartoon-ish colors are an artifact of the compression of a 14-layer file of about 17MB into a 365KB file for posting. I believe that's called Banding. PSE cannot deal with such large files, but the same effect will appear with high compression.

No problem. I am no expert at animated GIFs. You are in good hands with Rita. I was just explaining the reason why you had to click on your image to see the animation.

OK. Now I understand the change you are talking about.
When we got this forum up and running, we used postimage to upload images. In April of last year we switched to imgbb. New image upload plugin
If you uploaded an animated GIF using postimage, you could see the animation immediately. There was no need to click on the image to be able to see the animation. Here is an example.

Rita I found some videos on YouTube which set me off in the right direction Rita. I’m having to come to terms with sizes. My first post was accepted fine when I uploaded it but my second post was not accepted and at first I couldn’t understand why - it seems that it may have been too small - it was 128kb and I had to enlarge it and it was then accepted. I think I may have enlarged it a little too much. It’s all trial and error for me. As regards your animation I can run it as is via Irfanview for my own entertainment but as you suggest if I wanted to upload it in the forum I would have to resize it. Next time I will try uploading via postimage and see how I get on.

BillieJean,
Sizing has always been my major problem with animations. Making the layers is just a matter of a little patience and practice, and I can see you already have the hang of it. I make them strictly for fun when I have the time. Please ask, if I can be of any help. For watching them myself and checking if they run well before posting, I can open them from the Windows Picture Folder in the Browser just by clicking on them.

Next time I will try uploading via postimage and see how I get on. If you don't want to click on your image to see the animation, you are not limited to using postimage as I suggested earlier in this thread. You can also use CubeUpload. We have the instructions how to go about it.
Photo Sharing FAQ - Sharing via Cube Upload
As you can see from this example, you don't need to click to see the animation even with a larger file (667 x 1000 px, 1.28 MB).
