Good morning Photoshop Elements and More members! It's Saturday and time for a new Creative Effects Challenge! It isn't exactly spring here, but it sure isn't winter either! The sun is waking me up earlier now, and night has lost its hold. Creative juices are thawing! I have found several tutorials using a mask and the gradient tool to blend images together, but this short video tut (4.5 minutes) from Creative Cloth is special in that it succinctly offers some additional ideas to make your creation quite special: How to Blend Photos in Photoshop Elements I didn't do everything she said; there are many decision-points that you can take or leave, but because it is so short you can experiment and quickly find what works for you and your image choices. I am so looking forward to your creations; you are an artist! (Click for full-size image)

BG from Rust Set 1 from Photoshop Artistry Flower pic from pixabay script from morguefile Instead of using the Difference mode used in the video I chose Pin Light. Otherwise I followed the tut exactly.

Boy, you two set the starting bar pretty high! Excellent examples of this technique.

I followed the tutorial except for putting 2 images on the top layer and then covering the golden notes with the gradient and adding a gold frame. Used the diamond gradient to get that shape. All images from Pixabay.

I'm really liking these results; they are so interesting to look at! Even a good shot can sometimes be dismissed by a viewer as "documentation"; not these!

This workflow seems to be a way to imitate the BlendIf Mode of full Photoshop, which as far as I know was never made available in Elements. The object of the BlendIf Mode basically is to make something transparent without obliterating its features. That is what this tut does as well. Here I put the grapes behind the glass, then applied the gradient on the mask on the Glass layer, which made the grapes visible while preserving the light reflections and bubbles of the glass.
