So, I take it he doesn't think Google will be updating the Nik Collection?

I have read that they will no longer update but it will continue to work. Until of course, other systems update and then Nik will no longer be compatible. Some suggest loading it on an old computer not connected to the internet so your systems will be compatible with the "old" versions of software. I still use picasa 3 for fun stuff since it is still working.

So, I take it he doesn't think Google will be updating the Nik Collection? Google has not been updating the Nik Collection for a long time. Since they took over this collection, they have added only one plug-in -- Analog Efex Pro. They have also had a couple of automatic updates (mostly to fix some bugs). The Nik Collection has been stagnant/dead for a long time. From the start, Google has hinted they were not going to continue "enhancing" this collection. Now they finally made it official.

I have read that they will no longer update but it will continue to work. Until of course, other systems update and then Nik will no longer be compatible. And you are absolutely correct. Just because Google will no longer update the Nik Collection, it doesn't mean that these plug-ins will stop working. As long as Adobe doesn't make any drastic changes in the plug-in engine within Elements or Photoshop, you should be able to continue using these plug-ins. And as a side note, . . . as of this writing, there is no indication that Adobe is making such changes.
I am a bit leery of suggestions (such as the one by Kelby) to transition to another software. This is just the beginning!!! Other photographers (as well as software developers) are already jumping on the bandwagon. My e-mail is beginning to get all kinds of "endorsements" by the likes of Kelby of the "ultimate" software one should transition to. Hold on your horses!!! If you like the Nik Collection, keep using it.

It was a joke, Sepiana, because Scott was so adamant about it. Hence the smiley face.

Just to add my point of view...
The previous ver of Photoshop killed the processing time of Dfine2 in the NIK collection on MAC's. Happy to say it is now corrected, and no google didn't send out a patch or fix. So this could be a sign of things to come.
I have used Macphun software for years including Luminar and their HDR software. Both are great products at this time. I Believe there is a windows beta version of Luminar.
Scott Kelby is teaming with Macphun to sell his training classes. Luminar has both free and premium preset that you pay for - Scott has provided a free set along with a number of other photographers.

Now it all makes sense.
