Hey all, Say, I'm trying to figure out if this shot carries any interest to anyone. Personally, I like it - never mind the processing, as that's not my concern. Just the composition and subject matter. You'll note, too, there's a bunch of dots over the pipes and what have you...those are hovering bugs! I mean, really? None of them have thought to defect and go to the other side? Oh well! Anyway, are there any of you out there who find this interesting? Thanks.

I like it. I think it would be interesting as well processed in black and white. You should create a gallery on the forum and add it in as your first image.

Ah, yes, a B&W! Good idea. I'll have to work on that. (Gotta learn PSE 15 first!). Thanks very much.

Yes, I like it. There used to be heavy industry in my area. Pipe lines, cooling towers etc still remain. There is most certainly a beauty in industrial pictures. I have taken a few in my time.

It is only when I clicked on your picture that I could see the bugs you mentioned. OMG what a swarm of them!

...those are hovering bugs! I mean, really? None of them have thought to defect and go to the other side? Most likely on account of the dead cat that is laying in that pipe....... I find it surprising that I actually like that picture and would probably never have thought to have taken it myself; the reason being that one often takes for granted that which one is familiar with until all of a sudden it is no longer there. I share a back fence with a huge concrete pipe manufacturing company and row after row of them are piled everywhere; the good ones come and go pretty quickly; however, about one in three will have a flaw that makes them a cull and these culls may lay unmolested for years with weeds and bushes growing up around them. Every manner of animal and insect life and creepy-crawly thing imaginable will take up residence in them, including vagrants and hobos. It is a nice and rather unique picture; however, I think it would be even better if all of the pipes were concrete. Is that a silo I see in the left side background ?

HMCA,
Yes, a swarm indeed. I mean, can you say Apocalypse???
Thanks, BuckSkin.
Yup, that's a silo in the back. I think you've it upon something interesting (at least with regard to photography) when it comes to things we take for granted. In this case, it wasn't a matter of it eventually being gone that caught me; it was just shapes, sizes and textures.
You know, older towns, like the one I live in, are constantly changing. Things come and go all the time. I will be thinking more often than not now to keep an eye out for those things that fit that take-for-granted category. Thanks for the thought.

Around here, silos are an endangered species; there should be a law against knocking down those landmarks and testaments to a much better time; we had best be photographing those that remain because you will pass one day and realize they are no longer there.
