WThis is 2 images merged as layers in PSE 14. Because I used a 6 stop ND filter with a 4 sec exposure on a rather breezy day a couple of weeks ago, the foliage was rather blurred so I merged the blurred water (which was the effect I wanted) with an image with a faster shutter speed and therefore sharper foliage to obtain the overall look.

Thanks for the explanation....I immediately wondered about the foliage until I continued reading. You did a great job on the merge.....and I am one of those people who LOVE the silky water effect. I am thinking about ordering ND filters so would appreciate any suggestions you might have.

Thanks for the comments Helen & Sydney. Helen. I have a 6 stop round screw-in and a 10 stop 100mm square filter. I'm still experimenting with them so i'm no expert. All I can suggest is you obviously need a tripod and either a cable release or use the camera timer. I use a cable release as I find it easier to control. You will also need a shutter speed conversion chart to carry with you or there are apps for smart phones. I would suggest you obtain the more expensive versions on the market as the cheaper ones tend to have colour casts. You can also use them stacked together with a polariser filter especially with water. I think that's about all that I could advise but there are plenty of video tutorials on Youtube etc. Hope that helps somewhat.

Thanks, @scania. I have downloaded a clearly written ebook and have a tripod and cable release......just haven't taken the next step yet.
