A friend visits USA every year on holiday. A couple of years ago, they were at Wittenburgh, Arizona where she took this photo. It was October. She would like to identify those small things which were floating about. Apparently there were a lot of them in a woodland area. She does not think they were insects. We would like to identify them if possible.

It doesn't look like things flying to me,but more like a web - if one looks closely you can see it gets narrower at the base. It looks to me to be a tent catapiller that the eastern U.S. is well acquainted with. Dean

She does not think they were insects I was thinking the same thing as deany and Helen -- tent caterpillars. Then, I did some googling. It looks like they are . . . fall webworms.
