Am I going mad? Suddenly when I save a jpg etc in the Editor there is a sound when I hit Save. I'm sure it's not been there in the past and I can't find anywhere to turn it off. When I save in Word etc there's no sound so I'm assuming it is an Elements thing. Does anyone have an idea as to what I can do to stop it, apart from turning off my speakers?

I don't believe there are any sounds associated with PSE. Perhaps it's something else?

That's what I thought too - it may well be something else but I do wish I could find out where from as it is very irritating ... I know I'm saving something I don't need a noise to confirm it.

ChrisAnn, this is quite interesting! I wonder what is going on.
I am not sure this would help but . . . you could try launching Elements as administrator. Right-click on the shortcut and select "Run as administrator". Do some file saving and see if the beeping is gone. This little workaround seems to fix quite a few glitches in Elements (assuming this beeping is a glitch). If the problem is gone, go back to launching Elements as a standard user.

Thanks for the suggestion Sepiana but unfortunately it didn't rectify it - it must be something to do with Windows 10 I just need to find out what. Off to chat to Mr Google.

This is the Preferences Dialog of Photoshop CS5. When hovering the cursor over Beep When Done the ToolTip says: Beep after each command is completed.
I don't think I ever turned it on before, but did now to test it. Did a number of different tasks, including saving Pictures as both .psd and .jpg and also producing this screenshot. It never made a sound (yes, loudspeakers were turned on).
So, I still know nothing about it, but the ability to beep seems to exist.

I am afraid the ability to beep applies ONLY to Photoshop. (It is still available in Photoshop CC.) Adobe removed it from Elements starting with version 11.
NOTE: This beeping is by default turned off in both Photoshop and Elements (version 10 and earlier). If I remember it correctly, the reports on the Adobe forums mentioned that Photoshop was beeping although this ability was turned off.

Thanks for the thought Rita, I've checked and, similar to PSE 11, there isn't that option in PSE 15.
I'm about to be away from home for a week but on my return I'll do what you suggest Sepiana - it's a minor irritation but one I could do without.
I really do appreciate everyone's support in assisting me getting this sorted.

ChrisAnn, you are not alone in acquiring an unwanted sound effect in Elements, except that my new annoying sound effect occurs whenever I use the bracket keys to change a brush size.
Elements 7 never ever did this before, but in the last couple days, when I use a bracket key to change a brush size, I get this ear-piercing high-pitched "BEEP" with each press of the key; I have no idea why it has started this.
As for warning beeps and such, at least on our Windows 7 Pro machines, having the speakers muted does not mute the beeps; the little speaker icon, down next to the clock in my tray, currently has the red X on it, yet it is still beeping away to a fare-the-well.

I am not sure but . . . this may explain what is happening in your case.
Elements 7 has the "Beep When Done" option. Adobe didn't remove it until later, starting with Elements 11. Have you tried deleting the Preferences file (the three-key combo technique)? Maybe this is just Elements "misbehaving", a case of a corrupted/damaged Preferences file.

I never knew this preference existed until I read this thread. It's weird when things just start happening and it's often this difficult to solve the problem. Frustrating, to say the least. I have my speakers off on both the Mac and the iPad, because I hate noise when I don't want it, but I read here that I can get the noise with the speakers off. Yikes.
