Can anyone please tell me how to change - .abr files to .atn. I am trying to put something into 'Actions' on Elements 11.

Whippet -
You can't do that. abr files are brush files; atn files are action files. What exactly are you trying to accomplish?

I went to Brusheezy, and downloaded some brushes. I couldn't find how to install them. Then remembered about somebody saying a while ago, about changing files to .atn.
Just had a thought. Maybe the site is for Photoshop only, and not Elements.

Margaret you should be able to load the brushes by following these steps: 1. 2. Following step 2 you will see the option to load brushes.....just locate the abr file on your desktop.....I would suggest to append your current brushes so that you don't lose the ones you use regularly. Hope that helps......if not post back.

You have two choices -- either you load brushes or you install them.
It is usually suggested that you load brushes to temporarily make them available to the Brush tool in the case of brushes that you may not use very often. When you install brushes in the Brushes folder in Elements, you are making them available to the Brush tool on a permanent basis. If you want to permanently install brushes, navigate the path below and paste the .abr files in the Brushes folder.
C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 11\Presets\Brushes
Once you activate the Brush tool and bring up the Brush Preset Picker, the brushes you installed in the Brushes folder will be there waiting for you.

Thank you so much for your help. The brushes are from a site which Billie Jean used for her scrap booking. Now I only have to decide whether to load, or install, the brushes. Probably a silly question, but if I keep installing brush sets, (and/or other things), would my Elements eventually get overloaded - and not work?

I think you would have to install a lot of stuff for PSE not to work at all whippet. A few brush sets should not make a big difference. Apart from the brushes that come with PSE I have 7 more sets of brushes installed with no problem. If I need any others I just load them temporarily.

but if I keep installing brush sets, (and/or other things), would my Elements eventually get overloaded - and not work? Installing lots of add-ons in Elements should NOT stop it from working. One thing that could happen is to cause Elements to slow down. This was a possibility in earlier versions of Elements (which were 32-bit apps). I believe this does not hold true with more recent versions of Elements (which are 64-bit apps). NOTE: Elements 11 is 32-bit app.
As you also have Elements 2 . . . here is a word of caution (in case you decide to install brushes in this version).
There is a compatibility issue with brushes when you are using an older version of Elements; you may come across brush sets that don't work. Adobe made some changes in the brush engine -- brush sets created in newer versions of Photoshop won't work in older versions of Photoshop or older versions of Elements. Before you download a brush set, check its description. Usually there will be a reference to which version of Photoshop was used to create the brush set.

Thanks for the information Sepiana. I only use Elements 2 now when I get stuck doing something on 11.

Whippet If you're uneasy about installing too many "add-ons" in Elements, one suggestion would be to keep your brushes in their own folder and load only the ones you want, when you want them. When you shut down Elements, they'll be gone until you load them again. agg
