I recently bought a new Nikon D3400 camera, only to find that my PS Elements 10 program will not process the RAW images. Which newer version of Elements do I need to be able to process these RAW images?
I see people reporting complaints and problems with the new PSE 15. Could I possibly get what a need with a version earlier than 15?
Thanks for whatever you can tell me.

Have you checked to see if an update for Elements 10 will include capabilities for your new camera? Myself, if I already had Elements 10, this is what I would do (and what I already am doing with our E7 and E12) and where I would spend my money; I would put that Elements 15 money toward DxO Optics Pro, convert the RAW files in DxO, and then do any final editing in Elements. www.dxo.com/us/photography/photo-software/dxo-opticsproI managed to get DxO Optics Pro 9 Elite completely for free during a promotional program; DxO has a special "Prime" de-noise feature that, while very slow to render, produces images with unreal clarity and quality; just night before last, we put it to work on 237 Canon RAW files; we picked a random example that was typical of the whole batch, copy/pasted the recipe to the entire group, and went to bed; seventeen hours later it put the last finished file in the folder, but the finished product is well worth the wait. I probably just don't know what I am doing, but I have not been particularly impressed with the results I have been able to achieve in the Elements/Adobe RAW editors. Once I get the RAW files converted to jpegs, I load them into Elements 7 for any further editing; I love our Elements 7; I only ever use our Elements 12 for the two features it has that E7 lacks.

Have you checked to see if an update for Elements 10 will include capabilities for your new camera? I am afraid there is no such ACR update for Elements 10. Adobe releases ACR updates on a regular basis (about every few months) but they are for the current version of this program. Support for the Nikon D3400 camera was introduced with the ACR 9.7 update (compatible with Elements 15). If you don’t want to upgrade to Elements 15, Adobe offers the alternative suggested by Phil – the DNG Converter. You can convert your camera's Raw files to the non-proprietary DNG format using this free tool. Once your Raw files have been converted to DNG, they should open in the Raw Converter in Elements 10.
