Hello! I have PSE and Filter Forge plug-in. I love watercolor filters and came across this Photoshop action PERFECTUM VINTAGE WATERCOLOR PHOTOSHOP ACTION graphicriver.net/item/perfectum-vintage-watercolor-photoshop-action/17228517 which is absolutely stunning and the best watercolor filter I have seen besides Filter Forge. I only have PSE and have never tried to use actions. Does anyone know if this action could possibly work in PSE 8? I understand PSE cant open folder layers, but even if I can have limited functionality, I would still love to use it. Or, does anyone know of a filter or action made for PSE that does something similar? Thanks so much, this is my first post here, I appreciate any & all feedback

Hi creativesparkle, welcome to PSE&M!
The description of that action makes no mention it works in Elements. Unless someone else can confirm it works with this program, I would strongly suggest you contact the creator of that action before purchasing it. Elements can use actions created in Photoshop provided they have been written specifically for Elements, i.e., if they use commands that this program "understands”.
As to a plug-in to create a watercolor effect, . . .you could check Topaz Simplify. They offer a free trial.

Thank you for the welcome I contacted the creator of the action and he responded graphicriver.net/item/perfectum-2-watercolor-artist-photoshop-action/19501970/comments"Hello! I have photoshop elements 8. Even if there were limited functionality, I would like to know if there is any way to use the action in PSE 8. If not, would you ever be willing to make a Perfectum for Elements? Have a good day profactions profactions AUTHOR 3 days ago Flag Hi! Thank you very much for your questions. I have the ability to adapt some items for elements. I will tell you if it is done. CreativeSparkle CreativeSparkle 3 days ago Flag Oh, thank you so much for responding I am so excited and look forward to being able to buy the action and use it. Once again, thank you so much! "At only 6 dollars, it's not much of a risk. I will probably get it & see if it works in PSE 8 or in PSE 15 trial. If I can get it to work, I will def share the good news & instructions how! Thanks for suggesting Topaz - will check it out! I have their Remask and it makes life sooo much easier! I currently use Filter Forge plugin and Fotosketcher for watercolor - both gorgeous. But this Perfectum action wins hands down IMO. It might even push me to get a Photoshop CC subscription if I can not get it to work in PSE. We'll see Thanks again & hope you are having a great day

creativesparkle, you are most welcome!
Glad you contacted the creator of that action. Hopefully he will come up with a version for Elements. Keep us posted!

That action consists only of an .atn file. To install an action in Elements 8 so that it will be accessed via the Effects panel, you will also need a .png file (for Elements to generate a thumbnail). There is also another file - .xml. But this file is optional. Its purpose is to display the action in its own category in the Effects panel. If there is just an .atn file, you will need to install that action to be accessed via Guided Edit>Action Player.
If you are going to try Elements 15, then, all you need is the .atn file. Starting with Elements 11, you just load the .atn file via either the Actions Panel (Window menu) or the Effects panel.

Hi! I just wanted to give an update from last year. I went ahead & took the photoshop cc plunge. I have since gotten the watercolor action & many others. It's wonderful, I love actions! Such time savers. However, I have yet to find a forum to discuss photoshop cc for beginners. The Adobe discussion boards are not user friendly IMO. I see in your sig that you have cc too. Is it ok to ask photoshop cc questions here too? PS, I dont think the author ever made a photoshop elements version of the action, at least not that I know of. Have a good day all

The focus of this forum is on Elements but it is OK to post your Photoshop inquiries here as well. That's what "& more" on our name means. Besides myself, there are other users of Photoshop here; together we will try to help you. And if we can't? We will send you to the Adobe forums. (BTW, I go to the Adobe forums a lot. My experience is quite different. I find them to be user friendly despite their non-nonsense, all-business approach).
I don't know if you are interested in a more structured Photoshop learning experience. If you are, I strongly recommend the CreativeLive website. They offer classes on Photoshop (all levels). As a matter of fact, they have a BIG one coming up shortly.
