I'm getting back into doing more digital scrapbooking and at the same time trying to get used to PSE14 which is the most up-to-date version I have on my pc. I have always used the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Shift+J as a workaround to justify text, having first selected all the text. Today when I tried this it just would NOT work. I thought maybe you can't do it in PSE14, so reverted back to PSE9 where I used to use the trick a lot, but it still wouldn't work.
Am I doing something wrong? Any clues as to why I can't justify text?

You have the right shortcut. It works just fine in Elements 14. Did you start with a Text Box as instructed in the tutorial below?

Thanks Sepiana. Yes, dragging out a textbox first, pasting in text then doing the keyboard shortcut. Sometimes it's working sometimes not. tried deleting preferences etc. etc., but made no difference. Even went back to using PSE6 to see if that made a difference but no go.

At least we know it is not a case of a corrupted Preferences file because deleting this file didn't solve the problem.
I tested this shortcut in all versions of Elements I have -- 7, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 -- and it worked. As a matter of fact, I found another scrapbooking site which mentions this shortcut (and even in relation to the same version of Elements you have -- version 14.)

You said you are "pasting in text" in the Text Box. For troubleshooting purposes, type your text in the Text Box. Let's see what happens!

Yay! I just got it to work! Started out with a new document and typed a whole block of text and this time it was fine. I do sometimes have these little glitches with keyboard shortcuts from time to time which seem to right themselves without me doing anything or after a reboot. I guess it was one of those times!
Thanks for your help,

Bayla, glad to hear it worked. Great news!
I may be wrong (and someone, please, correct me if I am) but I don't think this was a shortcut glitch. I think it was related to copying/pasting the text. (Copying/pasting text into Elements has some limitations.) While I waited to hear from you, I did some testing using 7 different versions of Elements. Whenever I copied/pasted the text, the shortcut would not work. It worked flawlessly when I typed the text.

Sepiana,
Just tried it again copying text from Word & pasting it into PSE and it worked fine. I knew it should because I first learnt to this from a Jessica Sprague class and she said you could copy & paste from another program.
