Just a rousing thank you for this new outlet. I love playing around with monochrome developing. Even did some very unsuccessful film work with Tri-X back in the day, but since I didn't have a darkroom, it was a poor effort. Now with the tools available, it can be quite rewarding. I sometimes take a photo that I know has to have some redeeming qualities, but in color it just doesn't work. Removing the color and playing with the various shades of black to gray to white can suddenly make a dull image pop. I've always loved the work of Ansel Adams and other pioneers of photography. I'm looking forward to this challenge.

I'm looking forward to seeing these pictures. Love b & w.
I have an idea for a challenge. Beautiful old people. Not made beautiful by editing them to look young but beautiful with all their wrinkles, spots, sags and whatever but showing their beautiful character. I've found some really lovely ones lately. I'm even trying to do some self portraits. What thinkest thou?

Berengaria, You comment reminded me of a book that I bought a number of years ago. It is titled Wise Women by photographer Joyce Tenneson. It includes women aged 65-100 from all walks of life and is a wonderful testament to the wisdom, strength and beauty that comes with age. I think portraits of older people might be a wonderful subject when once this challenge gets established. Hope you'll join us in this new venture.

Thanks for telling me about Tenneson's book. I managed to find quite a few of the pics on the Internet. Very interesting. I'm 88 now and still having trouble coming to terms with my aged looks. Studying pictures of old folks is helping me. I guess it takes a certain mind set. I'm still learning anyway.

for some reason this reminded me of a post on the original PS&M regarding the Brown sisters and how they posed every year for 36 years: www.youtube.com/watch?v=LG1cGp5wW-E. It was an amazing "aging" video.

....so does this have to be completely black and white, or can it be b/w with a color highlight (example black/white landscape with a red chair as a highlight)?

Completely black and white unless a challenge might call for a hint of color.....but the emphasis will be on monochrome/BW images. First challenge starts tomorrow!
