What am I doing wrong? I want to add some text to a photo. I have selected the Type Tool, but if I either just click anywhere in the photo to start typing, or if I try to drag out a box in type inside the box I get an error that says: Here is a screen shot of my text area Thank you!

Michel,
Looking at the topic in both, if I were doing a search by myself, I would have thought those both were not related to my problem, since my text is not missing, at least to me I did not think it was missing.
Guess I need to uninstall/reinstall Elements? I am not going to try uninstalling Windows! Oh my gosh that would be a nightmare!

That was very informative. I don't know if Mac is having the same difficulty because I'm glitching all over the place anyway - so I'm not blaming fonts, per se, but I did have a couple of shut downs of PSE 11 when I grabbed one of my fonts. I like the concept of putting the useless fonts in another place because my list is so long now, it's difficult to use, but...

I don't know if Mac is having the same difficulty I believe only Windows users are being affected by the problems being reported. They are in direct relation to the Windows 10 Creator update. As Michel pointed out, both Adobe and Microsoft are aware of this situation and Microsoft will have a solution with the release of the Fall edition of Windows 10 Creator.
In addition to the Adobe forums, the Microsoft Community and the Windows 10 forums are being "flooded" with reports about fonts which have gone "missing" when you install this update.

With all this talk about missing fonts, missing texts, is this really the same problem I am having with getting the error when I TRY to bring up the type tool I stated in my original post?

I am with Michel on this one. I believe it is related to the Windows 10 Creator update. As a matter of fact, the same error message when using the Type tool was reported on the Adobe forums. According to the reports, it all began after this update. The solution was posted -- just rename the pertinent file.
NOTE: The thread in question was started by a Mac user. It doesn't apply here. Look for the posts by the Windows users.

Any idea when the fall release of the Windows 10 Creator will happen?

The article was written for the UK... will that also be true for the USA?
I do hope that Microsoft does have a fix in this for the Elements Text problem I am experiencing.
Thank you Sepiana!
It does amaze me the information you are able to find for anyone here!

I hope they find a fix for it, also, as I, too, am having this problem. Finally googled enough to figure out that if I change the font folder name to "old", then it works.... but I have to do that every time I turn off and restart my computer, so I've not been turning it off unless absolutely necessary.

Now the date is only 13 days away! Hope they get it done as speculated
