My initial files are in RAW. When I was only using Photoshop Elements, I was always working in PSD format. Now I also have Lightroom. As recommended, I first do all the possible editing in Lightroom and, if needed, I afterward transfer the file from Lightroom to Photoshop Elements for further editing. Why would I then use, in PSE, the TIFF format instead of the PSD format? Lightroom permits both, but the default setting is TIFF.
Thank you.

Lots of different opinions out there. One is that TIFF is better because it is not a proprietary format like PSD and therefore more programs can read it.
Since that doesn't affect me, I'm perfectly happy with PSD files.

With our large hard drives these days it may not make much difference, but a TIFF file is larger than a PSD file of the same image. I tried this out once and the difference ran around 25%

Adobe recommends one should use TIFF for the file format when setting up the External Editor Preferences in Lightroom because it is compatible with a wide variety of software.

Thank you. Ain't broken don't fix it. I will do as Major Major, for the same reasons: I will stay with PSD.
